A friend had this too and also went nuts about it. He did an OS setup (win10) and couldnt get into the game anymore afterwards.

He had to allow a specific not so obvious process for the software firewall - which I dont remember now, sorry.

Are you running a software firewall too? I know you tried a lot with it already but can you just uninstall it along with the AV?
(God I hate when people say that…)
Does the problem persist after a restart?

i got it working by deleting the config files 20 odd times and starting the game eventually it was able to grab whatever file it needed and logged me in…

my firewall is disabled at the service level meaning there is no firewall, and im in dmz on my openwrt ac1900 its got true dmz(even steam dosnt notice it, same as with ddwrt for me)

hopefully they track down why this happens be it a server issue or something with the clients…

wish they would enable ipv6 if the network supports it as that can bypass the firewall without manual work to get it working…either way, at least its working now wish i knew what file that it grabbed so i could back it up…

The reason I asked you for an uninstall with a restart afterwards is my history with software firewalls. They often enough do things, they are not supposed to do and just act like big bugs. Similar with AVs.

Maybe for the SD tech ppl reading this:

My friend mentioned that the folders with the configs were set to read only. We suspected bad files to be the reason for the failed login. However, after a steam cache verification the problem persisted.
There seems to be a bug with the config file management…

yeah, i was wondering if the read only thing was just me…

i just use windows build in in the rare case i want a firewall on the system…i miss sygate but…norton killed that long ago, didnt like the competition…so they bought it and killed it off :frowning:

windows firewall, can be 100% disabled by disabling and stopping the firewall service without need to restart.

You can try deleteing the files under these:
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Shooter\SaveData
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\UnrealEngine3

i did after 20+ deletes get lucky, it for whatever reason sets them all(folders to) read only sometimes…

Yea my friend is also locked out again and hasnt found a fix yet… Its odd that the things are turning… haunting the poor DB souls…

have him check teh config file folder and each config file for “Read only” (just a thought as others mentioned theirs was set read only and it caused an issue)
