Can you jump and crouch in the game to control the smartmove mechanics?

(Badmagix) #1

I saw some videos for the game and saw that you aim to control the smartmove mechanic, which could definately be good. but i was wondering if you could jump or crouch to help control where your going, since you might want to aim elsewhere while your moving around.

If not, then would jumping or crouching interfere with smart-move?

Smart move is an idea i thought about before you presented it in your game, i love the idea, im glad someone finally did it, good job.

Yep! SMART is optional. It’s mostly for those 90% of occasions when you just what to get up and over/under trivial terrain. If you feel it’ll make the wrong choice for you (it’s possible in a few edge cases), use manual jump and crouch.

(Cankor) #3

So if you crouch while you are sprinting you will do a knee slide thing?

(badman) #4

Yeah, crouching while sprinting throws you into a slide.

While we’re talking about the SMART function. Which is the default bind on a PC?
In my imagination lean left and right is Q and E like in cod. Its the most logical thing. Sprint and crouch is shift and ctrl?
What’s left over for SMART then?

Capslock?

(light_sh4v0r) #6

I believe the idea was to have the sprint key for smart.

(ehrw) #7

Sounds like it would work. At least not like cod with jump and climb on space.
Anyone that can confirm this?

(SnipingPenguin) #8

The S.M.A.R.T. button and the sprint button is the same button.

(light_sh4v0r) #9

You can use space for climbing as an alternative to the smartbutton, and if you get the timing right it will work better using space than the smartbutton.
Same for crouch, you can use sprint + crouch to slide, instead of just sprint and look down to trigger a smartslide.

Finally some explanation to one of the interviews. They said some cryptic thing about you being able to skip the SMART button and do it in a quicker way. Thanks!

(SnipingPenguin) #11

You actually use the sprint button, but instead of running into a small obstacle and then let S.M.A.R.T. climb onto it, you can jump earlier and do it much smoother, faster and cooler, and you’ll keep your speed when you get onto the other side of the small obstacle.

(ehrw) #12

You can probably duck jump over some stuff as well so you won’t have to climb

This article covers some of the posibilities of SMART in case you missed it:

Thanks again. Didn’t read the whole one when it came out. Something came up and just forgot the last half

(BlueRed) #15

Hey my HDD has S.M.A.R.T. support, too…

ehmmm never mind

(light_sh4v0r) #16

lol, that too

The most logical thing for me would be to have it like RTCW - hold down the action button, and push right or left. I hated having dedicated buttons for leaning.

(Cankor) #18

Well, you can always just re-bind it to whatever key combo you want right?

(Nail) #19

if I can bind lean to mouse wheel tilt, I’ll be happy

(DarkangelUK) #20

I was a fan of this as well for those reasons.
