I unpacked it, changed a line in a script file, re-zipped it all up and then when loading ET i get a “unable to load an official pak file…” etc…
any ideas?

bad idea, never edit pak0.pk3
take the 1 script put in a new pk3 file, and then do that, should overwrite the pak0.pk3 I think, not sure for etmain, ull have to reinstall now though…

No i just made a backup of pak0.pk3 and put that back in etmain and all works…
But i just want to change 1 line in a chat script in pak03.pk3 then save that script back into pak0.pk3… So this can’t be done…?
Does ET do a checksum on pak03.pk3 and if its changed it wont run etc…?
What if i added some bytes to the end of pak03.0k3 to make it exactly the same size as the oringial…?
DO NOT ever, i repeat DO NOT ever edit your pak0.pk3 . As stealth6 said make another pk3 file with the same path to that script, edit the script and place it in your new pk3. place your pk3 in etMain and launch the game
hmmm still a bit lost, all i want to do is play one wav… so like “vsay /sounds/chat1.wav” sort of thing then bind a key to it…
So that its also activated on everyones pc, any chance of walking me through how to do this…?
No i am just a player, in some of the script functions like cheer it picks a wav out of about 5 choices at random well i just want to use one of the 5 all the time, so how do i do this…?
instead of
cheer {
option1
option2
option3
option4
}
i just want,
cheer{
option1
}
this shouldn’t really be in level design rather just general…
heh … as i thought
you cant change anything as a player/client (besides message-binds)
when ill get some time … ill try to explain it to you … but now i have to go on with my work
greetz Cambo
Well if you open up any, say, text file in pak0.pk3 and change say 1 character in that text file for another character then import that text file back into pak0.pk3 then save it all, in pakscape, back to pak0.pk3, then it still doesn’t work, whereas if you just open pak0.pk3 in pakscape and save back to pak0.pk3 without making any changes it works, so how does ET know you have made a change in pak0.pk3 even if you are just changing say 1 character and are not changing the overall file size…?
its magic
(dont know why … some checks)
dude … whats the reason of your question? why are you asking?
I already told you.
I want to change the allies chat voice script in pak0.pk3 /scripts so i can bind a key to play a specific WAV…
EDIT: Ok i was watching a match yesterday and one of the allies team was spamming yoohoo!! how could he spam just yoohoo!! now i don’t want to spam but was just curious how he did it… he must have changed pak0.pk3…?
bind [key] vsay[_team] [name_of_vsay] [what do you want to display as text]
ex:
bind p vsay_team medic ^7I need a ^1MEDIC

You don’t read my question, i know all that but the vsay name is cheer, now there are about 5 cheers, yeehaa, yoohoo, alright, atta way baby, etc… as far as i can see if you do v57 then a random one of these is picked, but this ally i was watching was just spamming yoohoo constantly, how could he do that?
… as an admin of a server (with the playsound command via console) (but then it is playing only the sounds without the message - as far as i know)
… or if you pressing the vsay-command in same short periods (like 1 second) then it is playing the same sound again and again
read my post again and think, maybe he used “yoohoo” as the text displayed for it?
What you mean can be done without requiring extra scripts, you just need to specify the option in the command.
I’m not sure if I got it correct but it should be something like “/vsay cheer 3” (or any other number, probably from 0 to 5 or something for ‘cheer’). Then it will say the 4th (if it’s 0-based) cheer command instead of a random choice.
This works for all voice commands that have multiple options.
(It might also be “/vsay 3 cheer”, just try it out)
If this is not all you want but was just an example, you cannot edit your own game files and expect everyone else to suddenly behave like they would with your game files.
If you change a file that the game uses, the game will recognize this (files can easily be checked for integrity (if they have changed) by using an md5 checksum or whatever…) and will not work.
If it would work, how easy would it be to simply change all textures in a map to be transparant?! Or to give yourself infinte health? Doesn’t make any sense ofcourse!
You can however change game files if you run your own server. But then still, you don’t want to change any of the original game files, instead you have to modify them and save them in a dfiferent pk3 file. You would usually call this a mod, like ETPro or ETPub (large mods) or some small mods for example mods that change the helmet to a christmass hat.
So in conclusion, DO NOT change files that the game needs, it will not work, and for a good reason.
It was an ettv gamestv.org match, i am sure it was some kind of semi-hack… but he spammed yoohoo!! over and over both text and sound, the people watching were like, “how did he do that” sort of thing…

Here is you answer^
I watched the same match it was pretty funny, but I wasn’t really amazed at the skill, teamwork was pretty impressive tho
Question,
i used pakscape to open pak0 then i copied all the textures (for easygen) no when i launch ET the textures are gone, how to prevent this?
May be you haven’t copied but cut.
You could reinstall and see if it works.
Or if you have a backup of pak0.pk3 you could use this.
