For example, if I’m a medic, and I grab the Scavenge ability from the soldier abilities, will I be able to scavenge enemies as a medic, or am I only allowed to used Scavenge as a soldier main?

Each class has it’s own bracket of abilities. The scavenge ability can only be used by soldiers. There’s also a universal bracket that can be used in combination with your class bracket.
‘Hybrid classes’ are mostly referred to builds that specialise in two specific classes which are available to you during the game (as opposed to levelling out one class or spreading it over more than two).
Scavenge would be really powerful with ‘transfer supplies’. A player could keep the entire team filled with pips, so I guess that’s why they didn’t make it a medic or universal ability.

Medic abbilites only are used by medics, engineer abbilitys are only used by engineers, etc etc.
I got banned on the beth forums because a forum like this yesterday, lol, i called the guy ignorent. But he wanted every class to be merged with engineer, long story XD

Ah, so a Brink “hybrid” is if I go say, 10 points in Engineer and 10 points in Medic so that I can switch between them effectively during a single match?

Yes that’s exactly correct. You can also chose to put 6 points into 3 classes, and end up with less powerful abilities but more flexibility in-game. If you play with friends you can be more focused into one class as you know what their characters are build like so you have less chance of missing crucial roles in your team.
