I remember this was possible back in the day in Wolfenstein/ET and I thought I witnessed it last night. Skyhammer’s airstrike beacon on Trainyard got covered by someone diving on top of it so it just acted like a fragger nade. Looking for any real confirmation on the subject because it opens up some strategies.
Can you cover Skyhammer airstrikes?
If the EV drives over it before it detonates then yes, it wont call in the strike. However I don’t believe there is any other way to do this.
I’ve actually tried just like everyone tried back in the Wolf/ET days but I’ve never been successful. What @cornJester said is correct where if the airstrike gets thrown under the EV or is thrown directly in front and it doesn’t detonate to signal the airstrike it will just act like a normal grenade in a house…which is annoying.
you can sit on it but the timing is very short that you will miss it most of the time unless it was to be thrown directly at you
Yep, been able to do it two or three times, but only works before the marker explodes, so it will have to land right beside you.
Also throwing ammo- or medipacks on it seems to have worked for a mate.
With the new patch the airstrike marker will always detonate like a grenade now(With the added bonus of an airstrike if it has clear LOS to the sky). This means it dealing damage doesn’t mean the airstrike won’t be called in. You really won’t know if an airstrike is coming or not until you would hear the audio signal or see the plane.
I only asked because I was standing next to it when another guy jumped right on it and he was blown up but the airstrike never came in. It was definitely outside at the time. I agree that the timer is super short, but if it is possible it might be worth a shot since most of the time you will be doomed anyways.
I feel like it’d be cool counter play if you could shoot the Airstrike before it expodes it’d cancel the air strike like normal.
Like, if we set the marker to certain fuse time when it lands, and the enemy can shoot before it detonates, they can cancel the airstrike.
May be a bit of a huge nerf to it but we could always buff it to make it more consistent, sometimes it lands horizontal, sometimes vertical, I feel like that should be fixed.
Uh? The airstrike always is in a right angle to your viewdirection when throwing the marker? At least I’ve never been seeing it another way, would also be quite deadly. 
The plane comes regardless if you threw the marker under something or not. The explosion used to be the only difference.
Now there is no way in hell to tell if the airstrike is coming or not.
On the plus side, it means the airstrike got a 75 damage buff. Propably to compensate for the tighter AOE and to promote proper aim
