Can you bumpmap a stage of a texture?

Like say I only wanted part of my shader to be bumpmapped… a stage behind an alpha stage, could I do it?

Sure, but it wouldn’t be lightmapped. Q3Map2 bumpmapping is encoded into the lightmap data. It will only affect pixels that are the result of a multiply of lightmap * texture.

That’s what I thought would happen.

See, I’ve got a complex map, with some small parts that are bumpmapped like signs and logos that are on walls… The only thing is, with those parts being _lightmapscale .1 and everything else default, the shadows don’t match and it looks unrealistic.

I can’t run the whole map in _lightmapscale .1 or even close (.15 .2) because it’s giving me the old memory allocation error. (Says it needs 4GB… EEK!)
