Can we change the map of Europe image

(gerby) #21

Bah another great idea buggered up by politics
Come on Bani, you know we all wubs you lots and lots! :moo:

Out of curiosity, what are the main ET mods?
ETPro and umm err… ?

(bani) #22

the other one.

(Drakir) #23

An easy way to do this is to have your info_player_deathmatch placed in a sphere room that u apply a worldmap to and then draw the location of the map on that spheremap.

(HairyPlums) #24

???

Do you mean that this is the place that the inital spectator point would be at? So they would be inside an unreachable, unplayable-in room (a la WolfTV)? Am I on crack :stuck_out_tongue: ?

(sock) #25

What exactly is your master plan for your oilrig map? Can someone else make this map in order to bribe you, so this nice new feature add be added for the community?

How’s this for an approach… (for bani and cough shrub [rumored still alive])…

When starting a new map, instead of first consulting the
stock pak0 tree (e.g. scripts/wm_axis_chat.voice or
gfx/loading/camp_map.tga), first look for those files
in the “mapname” folder.

e.g.

if mapname/scripts/wm_axis_chat.voice exists, then
use it instead of scripts/wm_axis_chat.voice… otherwise,
use the stock file.

Similarly, if mapname/gfx/loading/camp_map.tga exists,
use it insted of gfx/loading/camp_map.tga.

I think this offers a lot of flexibity.

Comments? Possible?

Yeah thats what i ment…u could do a tunnel out from that room so that the specs can get out…or do some other cool stuff for the specs.

roofles at hummer

(bani) #29

ive already coded something for the next etpro:

http://bani.anime.net/etpro/alternativemap.jpg

the reason the objective pins are missing is that i forgot to write a shader for the replacement map image, but thats fixed easily enough.

(duke'ku) #30

firebombs started forest fires in the brookings area, and the japanese attempted to torpedo fort stevens in astoria.

(gerby) #31

Weeeh! That were quick
Can you let us in on how it´ll be acheived, because ideally I´ll get shrub to do it the same way. I don´t know how you two modders see each other, but this would really be a benefit to the community, so I don´t think you´d be having any ´competition´ from each other by supporting the same convention - just everyone wins

You do realise though, that after posting that pic, every custom map will be obliged to put up humurous loading screens?

Campaigns will look a bit weird if the map changes each time, but to be honest that´s a small price to pay for this functionality.

BTW will it be locked to a new screen for each map.pk3? I only ask because it would not be nice if admins started including these kind of images in their campaign files, which suddenly started ballooning in size and caused all kinds of problems.

How about this as an additional idea?
If a map in a campaign uses a different world map to the previous map iun the campaign, all map markers except the current one shift to the bottom or side of the screen to prevent them ending up all over the shop?
It´s just a quickl thought, not really thought it through so it might cause more problems than it solves, feel free to rain abuse down on my lowly head.

Once again though, cheers Bani

Wrong. They launched an airplane from the deck of a submarine. That airplane bombed the forests of Oregon, and started a huge fire. It was on September 9th 1942.

(DaRkFiRe) #33

That’s news to me!

(Chruker) #34

Actually according to a documentary I saw on Discovery. One of these ballons killed two persons. The only two americans killed on US ground during WW2.

(Loffy) #35

Hi!
I’ve also heard that the Japanese made unmanned balloons (with bombs), with complicated mechanisms for altitude control, specifically for hitting the US. And, as stated above, two (civilians) were killed as one of these balloons landed in the US.
It sounds like an incredible story but there is lots to read on the net:

The ballons had sandbags as ballast. When the ballon started to descend it would drop one. Thereby extending their range.

(bani) #37

eh, isnt shrubmod entirely server-side?

(G0-Gerbil) #38

I have no idea, although this would indeed make it hard to do
Personally I hope shrub sorts itself out, because I’ve yet to play on a server with it that doesn’t have lots of new bugs.

Mods are great, except when they make the game less stable than it was before.

Hmmm, just checked and I’ve got a couple of shrub folders along with etpro and etmain…

(Chruker) #39

According to the shrub manual its should be entirely server-side.

(G0-Gerbil) #40

Ah possibly the folders are because if, running shrub, you save a demo / screenshot etc, it always stores these in the mod folder, creating one if there wasn’t one to start with.
OK Shrub is out, but then again to be honest it’s so buggy I’m trying to get people to switch to ETPro if they MUST run a mod.
The one reason people (admins) seem to like Shrub is the limited admin / rcon rights they can grant people, so maybe ETPro might do that (if it doesn’t already).
Normally I’d be all for more mods, the more the merrier, especially since ETPro is aimed at clan play while Shrub is public, but Shrub is honestly so buggy it makes me leave servers. Who else here gets kicked to spectator each round when at level 4 light weapons, then has to join the team when the round has started because teams are locked in warmup and no-one can unlock them? Happens every bloody server I’ve been on
