Hey all,
This is not a matter of opinion. I am not here to say why I like or don’t like. I just want to know how it really works. I’ll make it simple:
I am talking about the bots in multiplayer. Let’s say we are playing 8v8. One player on my team leaves. So better the place be filled with a bot than to be 7v8. But let’s say another player on my team leaves. Will that space be filled with another bot or will the teams be balanced, cause now it can be 7v7, with aditional bots on each team.
I ask this, because, unless you are playing with 7 other friends, players on your team will be leaving. What if 4 players leave? Will it be 8v8, but my team having 4 not so good bots? Because that sounds like a major disadvantage and something that would hold me back from buying the game, since none of my friends are interested on the game and I don’t want to get my ass kicked everytime.
Can someone really explain how it works? So far, I have heard a lot of things, but none have answered this question.
It depends on the server configuration. Look at the server manual. If you want, you can play with bots, so if a human player leaves, he will be replaced by bots. But if you do not like the bots, you can turn them off. I guess most pepole will play objective or stopwatch with bots turned off.
From the server manual:
1.2.3. Server Configuration Files
Brink has four types of Game Mode:
(…)
Objective
This is the basic multiplayer mode and shares similar rules to Campaign, it will be familiar to players of Wolf:ET and ETQW. Initially this is likely to be the most popular mode for multiplayer Brink.
Stopwatch
Stopwatch is a variant of Objective, where at the completion of a match the teams are swapped over and the defenders during the first half of the match attempt to set a faster time than the one the attackers set. This will also be familiar to players of Wolf:ET and ETQW.
In addition to these game modes it’s possible to apply various pre-set configurations to Objective and Stopwatch modes, these are:

Competition
This config is geared towards players who like to compete in tournaments and provides some settings similar to popular ‘Pro mode’ mods in other FPS games, things such as removing rank restrictions, removing buffs and limiting team sizes. Its settings are:
o Team Damage: On
o Maximum Players : 16
o Minimum Players: 4
o Maximum Team Size: 5
o Rank Restrictions: Off
o Ready-Up Percentage: 50%
o Spectating When Incapacitated: Off
o Spectator Mode: Off
o Command Post Buffs: Off
o Fixed Map Duration: On
o Overtime: Off
o Global VOIP: On
o Team VOIP: On
o Bots: Off
o Voting: Off
Old Skool
Finally Old Skool is aimed at players who want something closer to the original Enemy Territory style games, Splash Damage’s previously titles. That means no bots, fixed map times and no rank restrictions. Its settings are:
o Team Damage: On
o Maximum Players : 16
o Maximum Team Size: 8
o Rank Restrictions: Off
o Fixed Map Duration: On
o Overtime: Off
o Global VOIP: On
o Team VOIP: On
o Bots: Off
o Voting: Off
