can I run it?

(crazyfoolish) #61

Well Crysis 2 has more demanding visuals but apparently it runs at a terrible framerate on console. I too would be interested to see this.

Does anybody have any information/webpages/advice on overclocking my system?

PSU: 600 Watt Lite Power (thermaltake)
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 560ti twin frozr (MSI)
RAM: 2x 2 GB DDR3 (Corsair)
CPU: AMD Athlon II Quad Core 3 gHz
MoBo: ASRock Phenom II N68-S3UCC

As you can see I am pretty new/stupid at this at this juncture.

(system) #62

guess your system should already run BRINK at max quality. Though I don’t know that much about the Athlon II, but as it is quad-core and clocked at 3.0 GHz you should be rather fine.

(crazyfoolish) #63

Yeah i was just wondering if it would be possible to bring that up to something closer to 3.5 gHz

(system) #64

As I’ve said I’m not really familiar with the Athlon II series, but I guess if 3 GHz is the original clock rate it should be possible to push i up a few hundred MHz rather easy.

You shouldn’t need to overclock with a quad core and GTX 560 Ti. But if you want to then read general articles about overclocking. They’ll tell you to increase the fsb (or HT). At a certain point you’ll have to increase the voltage very small amounts to keep it stable. Your computer will then consume more power and run hotter. It’s not a linear relationship to performance either. Sometimes keeping stock and running it cool is more efficient.

(A.i) #66

Also, if overclocking make sure you have enough cooling in your case to keep the temperatures under loads in check.

(Nail) #67

heat is bad (for computers)

with a 40MB hard drive
and 4MB RAM
and god knows what kind of POS graphics adapter…[/QUOTE]

thats is either a windows XP or 98 because even my parents vista doesn’t go that low

(Auzner) #69

And most people who ask how usually don’t. Aftermarket cooling sells more to overclockers. My stuff has giant coolers but I don’t overclock anymore since switching to quad core as well as a smaller case.

(crazyfoolish) #70

Yeah you’re right. I currently just have the Psu fan, the motherboard fan and the dual fan on my graphics card. When you say additional cooling do you mean as in a couple extra fans or some sort of refrigerated fluid system?

(Nail) #71

properly placed fans will help, but you don’t need to overclock, you’re good to go for quite a while

[edit] an extra fan might give you more performance than overclocking

(podyx) #72

I have ATI radeon hd 5450 graphics card and Phenomenon II X4 820 processor (4 cpu) ~2.8GHz. Will I be able to run it and how well in that case?

(Nail) #73

what case, you got a fancy case w/lights and stuff ?

it’ll run ok

(A.i) #74

I’m doing a water cooling build rightnow with quad fan radiator, UV tubes and such, but not for overclocking, well I might overclock my graphics card, once I’m done. So do not overclock with stock cpu coolers - they are crap

(jfunk) #75

What are you doing with all that fancy cooling if not overclocking?

(DarkangelUK) #76

Obviously they’re old now, but I read some very positive online posts and blogs about the stock Intel C2D coolers working very well for OC’ing… not ready anything about the i series though.

(A.i) #77

Mostly for looks and quietness
But I will overclock eventually

I have not heard about C2D coolers, but the stock one that I have that came with i7 is pretty old and bad/loud
And I would prefer corsair h70 to any cooler, unless I do manual WC build

Fair enough, but that’s a heck of investment (in both money and time) if you really aren’t planning to push it.

You can set yourself up with a pretty quiet air cooled system if you just use a couple low RPM large fans. A video card with external exhaust will help.

And you can always overclock from there on air with a corresponding increase in noise as you have to bump up your fan speeds.

Unless of course your primary objective with this project is just doing it for the heck of it and fun.

(A.i) #79

Last ^^
I wouldn’t do it if I would not enjoy it. I would rather buy the said H70 or noctua d14
Money bites though

I will push it to some extent, just don’t want to add more voltage doing it

Also, apparently the one I have is C2D stock fan lol

Hehe certainly not. That’s more Dos 6.22 and Win 3.1

Ah the good ol’ days of QBasic and Nibbles/Gorillas lol.
