Can I play with friends/start at beginning?

I thought the major selling point of this game was that the campaign and the multiplayer were supposed to go together seamlessly?
I’m probably just missing something simple but, i can’t for the life of my figure out how to start a campaign level from the beginning with a friend on my team.
It seems every time i jump into a game it’s already started. I’ve yet to start one of the campaign levels from the beginning, except for when i do it solo offline. Solo offline is pretty bad, my team AI seems to be mentally challenged. When I TRY to start a level online, either co-op or versus, the match is always started, sometimes just minutes away from being finished.
I don’t wanna do friends only, or invite only, i don’t have enough friends with this game to play like that.
There’s no lobby? Why?
I would LOVE to be able to start a level, from the beginning, knowing that all players are human. Playing against bots really takes away from the potential of this game in my opinion.

Am i missing something?

yeah you can start the game co-op or online anytime.

you can even play the challenges with friends, just not to unlock stuff at different “star” levels, that has to be done solo it seems.

Yeah, just set up a private co op game against bots

well if you want to ONLY play with friends, you need to start a PRIVATE game and turn your players list to INVITE ONLY (make sure you put the game settings on MY RANK OR HIGHER) then select the mission you wish to start. then it should make you host, once you get into the match before you ready up and hit “A” or “X” use the “B” or “O” button to bring up your in game menu screen and there will be an option towards the bottom that says “Invite Xbox LIVE party” or something else for playstation, but select that and it will send out an invitation to your party members.

OR they can go to there main menu (if you’re in a party chat) and when you’re in a game they will see something that sayd “Xbox LIVE Party” or whatever PSN says and they can just join you anytime.

I dont want to sound rude but, did you guys read what i wrote?
I dont want to start a game with just me, a friend, and bots. It’s boring, and the AI sucks.

I would like to be able to play a campaign level, from the beginning with all human players, no bots.

Is this possible?

it’s possible but when you play you may get thrown in at the begining or the end of a match, unless you have 16 friends and you play private all the was through on VS mode.

sadly not because SD is too small a company to have the time for a LOBBY SYSTEM!!!

oh and something weird. when you have a security character and you try to play their first mission you’ll end up doing resistance? which I found strange I’m not sure how that works out.

So a game that is supposed to be mainly an online multiplayer game, has no functioning online multiplayer?

I enjoy the concept, and the game is fun but, it’s going to get old reeeaaallllllllyyy fast if it stays like this. I’m fairly disappointed! I wonder if gamestop will give me my money back?

This bothers me, because you miss out on so much.

It’s a campaign, but i have no idea what’s happening because they start me 3/4 of the way through the story, only to find out that there is only ONE other human on my team, and the other team only has 2 or 3 human members.

for a multiplayer based game, this is pretty stupid
