I know this is a fast pace game and I like it, frustrating at times but also very challenging. Can DB add in something like when someone gets shot it maims them for a sec? Wouldn’t it put a damper on those who fly right in, headshot then zoooom away? Shouldn’t there be some sort of penalty for getting hit? I remember one other game that did this and it changed a lot of things. Just an idea? What do you all think it would if DB added something like this to the game?
Can DB impliment this?
No. That would be horrendously bad. The speed/health balance is fine … as long as you spot that stupid sporks early enough…
I see what you are saying. It’s asinine that someone with a knife can run at you, while you shoot him 7 times, even head shots and that person still kills you.
The entire point of a game like DB is that there isn’t anything like this. To implement it would completely change the game, and remove a lot of people’s reasons for playing it over other games. People play DB specifically because you can shoot and run.
People shouldn’t be punished for quick hits, because that’s pretty much the entire draw of the game. Fast mercs would become next to useless in combat as they can no longer use speed to their advantage, and overall the game would become considerably slower. I’m not sure why you’d suggest this at all since you said you liked the fast paced, but oh well.

If you can’t kill someone who’s trying to melee you, you really outta find a new game. Melee is extremely hard to get reliably good at beyond killing the occasional noob. And unless you’re facing a melee pro who deserves the kill anyways, either run away and shoot or melee back, lol. Don’t get within melee distance and be surprised when someone beats you with a bat instead of continuing to shoot you, it’s part of the game, and it’s why I play it.

Maybe your mom should find a new game.
why so negative all of the time?

I find it weird when people complain about something that is one of the major reasons people play DB. Not something like “nerf proxy” or whatever, but stuff like “DB is too fast, slow it down”, or “there should be a fair play compensater”.
I get it, not everything in DB is for everyone, and that’s fine. But please don’t ask for the entire fabric of the game to be changed just because it’s not your preference, because well, most of us are playing the game because we like it the way it is. And if you really hate something so deeply ingrained in the game, you should think about finding one that better suits your preferences. I don’t mean it as an attack on you or OP, I’m not just trying to say “git gud”, I just don’t understand why some people stick to DB when they hate such a major gameplay mechanic that everyone else here loves.
Please keep things on track though.
I don’t think the OP was complaining. He certainly didn’t say he hated the game.
it was just a suggestion, to no one in particular.
I like this game, because it’s not that often that someone really good plays it. I am usually above average and sometimes the best one in the game. That doesn’t happen to me in other games. I don’t find the game all the unique though. It seems to me they took a little bit from many other FPS. It has a Run and Gun that reminds me of the Halo.

There is a lot of “we” and all I see is you. No need to bully the poor guy for just voicing his opinion. He just wants to have fun same as you.

We agree on one thing, that there is no need to bully.
However if someone wants to change one of the core mechanics of the game - in this case the movement system - because he can’t shoot a player who is running towards him and then stabs him twice
then it might be easier for that particular player to search a new game then changing DB to fit their preference.
There apre plenty of other military shooters where soldiers move slower. There are more fast paced games as well, like Quake and Unreal Tournament - in fact I used to play Quake a lot, but since I’m working, I don’t have that much time to practice, so I switched to DB because my aim got rusty
But I can still kill any melee Sparx/Kira/proxy/whatever way before they can stab me even once.
Dirty Bomb needs to evolve, if it wants to increase playerbase and transform to more profitable game. All this talk about who represent community and who bullies, is completely irrelevant and does not advance Dirty Bombs life expectancy. We all represent ourself and we are part of same community. It’s just a rhetorical way to express ourselves, when using “we”, “us” or “SD”. Saying someone that he should go away and play other game, after suggesting innocent improvement idea. It’s not polite. There are no games like Dirty Bomb and it’s nearly impossible to convert Dirty Bomb to exactly same like those other games. All games are more or less similar with different areas. All games are games. So whats the point of saying “gtfo, you cod peasant” “you dont belong here”?
I think OP’s idea is developable. There is too much undying bullet sponge groove going on. It would make Dirty Bomb even more fast paced, if people would die and not run away. More tactical, if you just dont rush with your nearly immortal assault/medic combo. DB’s gameplay is about metagaming that combo and it’s been same from beginning. If we take Stokes1 idea to maim opponent, it would balance mercs more to same line. Weak/fast mercs have better chance to use this maim ability against heavy mercs. And heavy mercs can maim larger groups alone, if they have required experience over others.
No way I’m going to let the most annoying feature in other games that I constantly complain about and want to be removed be added to Dirty Bomb too.
DB relies on movement a lot, you can’t just take away that from it

I could say the same to you guys with how you react. Melee is indeed hard to use while being able to maintain high accuracy with shooting; melee consistency requires a higher sensitivity setting which hurts your consistency on landing shots. What she’s stating is indeed the case as this has been a recurring type of complaint for at least 3 years in this game (the “anything that kills me and makes me feel bad needs to be nerfed” mentality isn’t new here, or in any other game). We may not all say something about it here, as most of us don’t even bother to regularly visit the forums because of this crap, but there is a large amount of people who are indeed in agreement with @STARRYSOCK here.
@WatchAsILead Also she’s talking about @Major_Slapnuts not the OP so I don’t get why you feel the need to give them shit for it when @Major_Slapnuts is the one who started throwing slap-talk around; case-in-point:

He cut out the meat of STARRYSOCK’s argument and kept only what would make her seem the villain here; honestly a childish move to pull, but that’s another discussion that I have no interest in having.
What she stated was just the blunt facts of how not every game is going to be a perfect fit for everyone, in essence, and how the game shouldn’t be forced to become something else just to satisfy a few newcomers who don’t like what the game is; this is something that isn’t debatable, a game has an identity and a core concept. This concept is one that isn’t meant to be subject to such drastic change post-production, especially when such change would make it just another clone among the mass of similar games; DB’s core focus has been the gun-play and parkour/movement system since the beginning, something that allows for melee to be much more utilized than in other games with the ability to cover such distances so quickly. You make melee useless and the game is no longer DB.
Case-in-point, when they nerfed the turn radius for all melee as a part of their massive nerf to Phantom back in the day; which ultimately fucked over every Merc fast enough to utilize melee, and not just Phantom. Most players don’t realize the implications behind what they are asking for, in terms of changes, and that can’t be ignored. STARRYSOCK could’ve worded her statement better in a way less provocative, granted this could very well be the case; However, when discussing something that will affect everyone else playing, our personal feelings over such trivial matters are inconsequential in the grand scheme here. So instead of resorting to an e-peen contest here, why don’t we all take a step back and consider the facts as they are.
If the games underlying design bother’s you that much it clearly isn’t a good fit, and expecting it to change to suit you personally is unreasonable, so the question still stands, why are you staying here other than to complain about it? That is essentially the underlying concept behind what @STARRYSOCK was saying here and it’s a valid question; not to mention, one players who have take issue with such matters should honestly be asking themselves.
All I wanted to do was ask a simple question. Not whether I suck at this game or not. I’ve seen this in other games. When CS first came out there was so much bunny hopping and they fixed it where you really couldn’t bunny hop and it changed how you played some. I also played Soldier of Fortune that kind of had that feature of maiming someone for a millisecond and it had to make you think for a second on what you were doing. I’ll still continue playing DB because I like it, I was just throwing my two cents in and trying to contribute, sorry I asked. Good luck and have fun playing!
@Stokes1 you kinda touched a sensitive spot for the community there. There is already punishment for getting shot in the head: you flinch and your aim gets thrown off, aka aimpunch.
Most of the community is here because the lack of such elements that you mention; get shot first, you die because you can’t fight back. People here UTTERLY HATE that. It’s already heavily argued that the mere presence of aimpunch is completely agaist the spirit of the game.

Sorry I mentioned it, I’ll keep my mouth shut. So much for ideas.

i feel the main issue is that the blood on the screen looks the same when ur almost full health and just got shot, and also when ur at like 1 hp

The blood patters could use some improvements, but they’re really not that bad. You’ll get used to it pretty quickly.
Besides, almost every experienced player plays with it off anyways, since they consider it distracting. I still play with it on, I kinda forget to look at my healthbar sometimes. It’s one of the main reason’s I don’t like snipers actually, because you don’t have the blood splatters while you’re scoped.
Still not really what OP was talking about though. They’re talking about punishing players for taking damage, not just showing them they’ve taken damage.
