Campaign Match Making

How does this work in Campaign mode?

Seems there has to be separate team brackets for each map in campaign mode as one team progresses and the other replays. I also recall hearing that player levels will also segment the campaign player base. That’s player level, map and faction (and platform). Do teams join maps already in progress (and start their own if none exist) or do they wait in queue for another team to be ready to play their map on the opposite faction and correct level?

Seems like it’s a huge amount of segmentation and, therefor, either a whole lot of waiting in queues (long downtime) or getting dropped in half-finished missions (less fair, incoherent narrative).

I think they break up the teams when you are sent off to other maps in campaign mode. You would stick with your “Fireteam” assuming you created one. From what I read on Fireteams though it seemed like they were composed only of two people. This could just be how it’s done on console.

If there are enough games going on there would be more opportunity for the team to stay together and meet up with another team who needed to play the same level.

So, if they break up the team, it’s easier to stick everyone into a game with players of the same skill level.

There’s probably a button you select which says ‘put me on servers according to my level’, if it’s unchecked you’re more likely to stay with the group?

It’s a good question.

edit: I think the only time you drop into a match in progress is with co-op, when you join your friends game, or with freeplay (I’m just guessingf course) I would expect when you play a campaign level you start from the beginning since it’s about the narrative, but who knows and yeah, I see your point about possible waits if that is the case.

it’s looking like the matchmaking system might stop the seemless transition between on and offline single player, multi player type of thing. I’m thinking there must be both server(host) and client parameters that would be set pre-match to stand a chance of working.

Think I may stick to LAN, unless we host a couple servers where I can reign supreme

Well, you could just host your server and make it private, that’s pretty much the same effect as a LAN and you don’t have to get everyone together. You’d need enough guys to have the server filled if you just wanted a randowm game, otherwise you have your match nights for your buddies and they can be spread all over the world.

I wonder if random campaign players will be rolling in and out of the same servers as people who just join a specific server via server browser.

Well, they should be rolling in and out of serevrs which are close to them (low ping), but based on the number of maps, of which you can play both sides, it seems like it would be rare to land repeatedly on the same servers.

That said, If you get on a winning streak you’d stay on the same one until you lost (I think).

based on this logic to me the only real reason to host a campaign server (other than just as a nice thing to do for the community) is for recruiting purposes.

the game has dedictated servers (atleast for pc, afaik) so thats where ill be spending most of my game time
