camera portals not really camera's... -.-

Well, i just tried making a camera, (and yes it worked) but imo its not a camera :S

i want the portal surface (the “tv screen” you could say) to be just like a tv screen. EG, when you move to the corner of the screen and look at the middle of the screen, you will NOT see any more than you would if you would stand exactly in front of the screen (or even on the totally oposite side)

Now however, it looks more like a window. If you walk to the left side you can suddenly see much farther “into” the camera view. In a real camera tv screen (which im trying to make, security camera’s…) you would not see anything more, (maybe only a little distortion because you are viewing from the side).

Is there anything i can do about this? i tried moving the info_notnull closer but it didnt do anything…

if it’s not clear what im trying to ask just tell me and ill post up some screenshots.

Viewing the camera screen from different sides, it clearly shows that the screen changes with the angle i view it at:

Then i replaced the camera portal by a simple texture (a prntscrn image pasted on top of the brush that used to be the camera portal) which got the desired result (although ofcourse it’s a texture which means it can’t really be used as a security cam -.- (it doenst show players etc)) (might be a bit unclear image but if you look closely you should get it)

sadly camera entity is not really working in ET, so you can’t fake it and make it viewable by use button
the easiest solution is to not allow to view from sides ( narrow corridor, and place screen deep in wall )

ok… too bad… the solution you posted doens’t really work in my map… oh well, no camera’s then…

Jaguboss’ solution does work. I have a camera in a map that I’m working on. The camera projects down a corridor and I don’t seem to the issue described.

Flippy, what if you create an alcove in the wall and set the camera in that or have a wall vent with the camera in that?

well im not completely sure what you mean, but i guess you mean putting the camera screen in a long “tunnel” ? Then you would need the room to be so small that the player can’t move to the sides… i wanted it to be qutie a big room with multiple camera’s. It’s not really important , i just wanted to know if it could be done but apparently it cant… at least not how it would be in real life (not using any work arounds)

you can also put alphaGen portal 64 or whatever it is to your portal, and you don’t need long tunel at all
with enought tweaking you might achieve very short ranged cameras, not sure if it will save any FPS but it might be useful to know
