Calling it quits

(Ifurita) #1

My mapping career is more or less over … the degree of satisfaction no long merits the amount of work required. It was fun while it lasted.

I’ll finish up the maps currently in progress, but there won’t be any more new ones from me. Thanks to everyone who helped out: teams, server admins, individual players - I’ll try to get a nice little thank you to you all in my last map, Tactical. You all know who you were.

Anyways, I’ll probably get back to work on writing tutorials, updating various sites, helping people out on a one-off basis, etc - will definately still be around. It’s been a good run though, I started mapping in August of 2003, and have since released a nice portfolio of maps.

Byzantine
Vengeance_final (team project)
Vengeance_TE
Rommel (team project, supporting mapper)
Dubrovnik
Breakout (RTCW port with the source from Menzel)
Reactor
mo_Decerto (developed with Team Modus Operandi)
Tactical (single person tactical shooting course)

and had a couple of maps in the works

Zeppelin
Rochelle

I’ll probably spend some time packing up a bunch of things as prefabs, so if there is anything in particular that you like, let me know and I’ll throw it up on my site. Also, if you see anything there that you would like to know how to do, let me know and I can write it up as a tutorial or point you to the tutorials I used.

Thanks to everyone who helped out, helped test maps, etc. A big shout out to everyone here for putting up with a bunch of really stupid questions and especially all of my development partners (Mean Mr Mustard, Firefly, Cptn Triscuit, Seven_DC, Vitriol, Modus-Operandi, Schaffer, Brevik, and thegnat)

(CptnTriscuit) #2

Well I enjoyed working with you and Mustard on Rommel.

You’ll be back!

OH! An official announcement!
It was very nice to work with you Ifurita. I think I shall never say never again. I have little bit of changed into Source mapping though novadays I enjoy playing ET more than Mapping.
well time will tell what I shall do. Maybe when my kids go older I go back to ET mapping again

Hey Iffy, I really enjoyed working with you and wish you all the best with future endeavours and your family.

(.Chris.) #5

All good things must come to an end as they say, well i’ve enjoyed your maps especially dubrovnik and reactor two of my fav customs out there, also the tutorials youve written are also at the same high standard and have helped me more than once. Anyway good job with all your achievements and good luck with whatever you pick up next.

(Enrico Palazzo) #6

I hope you stick around the forums at least, and on IRC too, lots of budding mappers still out there, myself included, that need answers to all the idiotic questions I’m sure you once asked others. The tutorial site is great as is, and I’m happy you wish to add more to them. What are you going to do now, map for other game engines? work on a game mod? Anyways, cheers :drink:

dammitt!! . …just as I’m in the middle of a gargantium struggle with scripts and entities and need the illumination you bright sparks give

…anyhow…you can’t leave mapping behind… resistance is useless!!

(Ifurita) #9

I’ll still be around to help others out – I did say that I wanted to get a few more tutorials written.

(Sauron|EFG) #10

Thanks for everything Iffy!

Vengeance, Rommel, Reactor and Dubrovnik are all favourite maps of mine, and you’ve given me and a lot of other people endless hours of fun.

Have fun with whatever you choose to do instead. :drink:

(mortis) #11

Ifurita,

You can join me on my quest to debug existing maps using etpro map scripts! Your know-how would be of incalculable value! So many buggy but otherwise good maps, so little time and people to clean them up. I have worked on fixing SupplyDepot at a snail’s pace due to my noobness at Radiant and Wolfy Scripting, but that would not be an issue for you!

It would be wonderful if we had a tool for Wolfy that had the ease of Unrealed. I can do in one day in unrealed what takes me weeks to do with Radiant.

In any case, have a cold one  on me as a thank you for your efforts in the ET community!

–Mortis

(Ifurita) #12

Actually, I’ve always thought it would be fun to build prefabs of objectives. They’re pretty easy to do and help new mappers get their maps off the ground

(FireFly) #13

Sad to hear you no longer will be mapping, but glad to hear that you still be around in the forums, helping others…

I really enjoyed working with you on the Dubrovnik map. For me it was the first time ever working in a team and it was a great experience.

(Mammoth Entertainment Inc) #14

your a genius Ifurita… werd up from the streets of compton

(EB) #15

Well, you are a ‘treasured’ part of the community. I’ll chat more with you on the lighting experiment thread.
-Good luck with whatever you exchange your ‘now’ extra time to. -Cheers

(DG) #16

:frowning:

you better at least be farting around with DOOM3, in anticipation of some other game using that engine

(Ifurita) #17

Yeah, probably will do some of that.

(au.Hiroshima>) #18

many many thanks from myself & on behalf of the GA community for all your maps and the massive effort you’ve put into getting them just right. much appreciated

dare I ask is Rochelle on the list of things to finish up?

cheers,
-hiro

(Ifurita) #19

Nope, won’t be finishing Rochelle. 100+ hours of work really isn’t ‘finishing’ anything. However, if anyone wants the source to take a stab at it, they are more than welcome to it. It has a roughed out map, a fully working script, sinking subs, a crane controls that work, etc.

(eRRoLfLyNN) #20

Ifurita i gotta say somethin for the drunken, suicidal amount it is worth!

One word of advice re ur departure into Doom3 engine maps - please DO NOT make anything tooo BIG for fear it would be INCOMPREHENSIBLE to ppl what plays in competitions ().

And pls add more secret doors for VPL to win thru, jaysus we almost won reactor one night hehe!!

Dubrovnik & reactor, 2 of the best Wolf maps i ever played, and I will play those maps with my grandchildren, even when they frown upon 1.4ghz Athlon processors (nay spit upon them!!)

And Vengeance, I would play it every day (if THEY would let me

I hope u don’t give up mapping completely, and 1 day I hope to play some Iffy maps on RTCW2 and complain about getting camped by United Nations Officers who don’t even have any guns, how are they doinggggg that, dman HaXX, etc!!? :stuck_out_tongue:
