Gawd damn it, was playing with some guy the other day who had ‘Reloading’ and ‘Grenade - watch out’ binded to the various commands. Annoying as hell, who gives a shite on pubbys? He was a rambo med who was laggy as hell anyway. Pah.
Calibrating Mouse Sensitivity

I hate that so much. I can tolerate it when people use a script like that to tell their mates they’re switching to engineer or something, but other than that, it’s just fucking annyoing and equally uninteresting.
It’s actively working against your team since it makes it more likely teammates will miss important messages since they get scrolled off the screen by the useless spam.

Very true.
moreover, by the time “reloading” has shown up in your teammates chat buffer, and they have noticed it, chances are very good that you have already finished realoading, or died trying. As for suiciding, the console already gives a fairly unique message when you do that.

Heh. For yourself, maybe. For starters I use a completely different config on Public servers that I do in clan games, be it a scrimm or league game. And secondly, the reason I find it usefull, at least, the kill section means quickly that my team mates can see that im dead, but intentionally so they know there must be a reason for it, eg ammo, back in a pos quicker if spawns closer and so on. Another thing is that because on some maps its harder to cover a larger area and still stick close together so sometimes say, Oasis as Axis defending Old City at the lower section… Majority of play i’ve seen has Medic/Engy at below CP (Cave type inlet) and a Medic at the back… so, if a wave come at ya and you wipe a few out you can just hit reload, move back and cover while the team m8 either refills ammo/heals/covers.
You CANNOT always rely on teamm8s to cover you or at least, to KNOW you need cover. The whole general chat thing is there as we use voice and its very rarely the kills, teamkills, etc echo text is watched unless we need to know if someone specific is dead.
And the final reason is just so that when I can be assed touching up and releasing my class/setup configs theres a wide range of options etc availible for players and clans to configure and customise. May as well make the best of what we’ve got, remember, all you gotta do is // or delete it out if you dont want it. Its not forced.
how do i cheak my OS sensitivty
i recently changed to 90FoV cause i find it easiest to get headshots, so i need to calibrate everything again
Presuming you know how to change this? Either via the RegEdit mentioned above or Start Menu > Control Panel > Mouse Settings > Then under of the Tabs is ‘Pointer’ or summit.
In ET, open the console and type /sensitivity then Enter leaving the value blank. It will display the default and current set value.
Check the rest of the posts in this thread for a few binds I use that allows you to quickly change your current FOV and Sensitivity and Echos your current setting to the HUD so you know. Its good for different situations, as you mentioned, firefighting with a lower sens and FOV gives you better view of NME (+ head :D) and a easier to aim sens and for movement or more than 2 NME’s you can zoom back with a bit higher sense which allows you (or me at least) to gain a slight advantage over the NME as you can keep them in view at all times and hit them both between quicker.
Well I’m not gonna argue against you, at least not while you play a clan match since whatever works for you guys is the right thing. But my experience in clans since the beginning of rtcw is that if all members use it, it lose it’s function anyway. You’ll see the reloading thing flash by every three seconds (just as an example) when different members reload while you just miss the reload from the team mate closest to you anyway. As I said earlier, in my experience automatic messages will just blur the chat area with a lot of reloading and killing and end up with no one reading it in the end anyway.
In theory it sounds good, in practice it seldom work.
Like pretty much every other scripting opportunity in ET, a (very) few things excepted
I’ve changed mine to:
OS: 10 (no acceleration)
ET: 7 (no acceleration)
BUT!
Here’s a little script I’ve just started to use:
// SHOOT - AUTOACTIVATE - SENSITIVITY
set ATKon “cg_autoactivate 0; +attack; sensitivity 3.0”
set ATKoff “cg_autoactivate 1; -attack; sensitivity 7.0”
bind mouse1 “+vstr ATKon ATKoff”
This script replaces your MOUSE1 bind, and does two things:
-
only while firing (holding down MOUSE1), mouse sensitivity is reduced to 3
-
only while firing (holding down MOUSE1), autoactivate is set to 0 so that I do not pick-up packs
When MOUSE1 is not in use my sensitivity is returned to 7.
This script allows for the best of both worlds. Quick turns when not engaged in a shootout, amazing target tracking while firing.
As an aside, this script, as it is, will allow Medics and FDOPS to drop packs while running forward, without having to worry about picking them up.
