after an embarassing first release, it has been much tweaked, tested on two large servers (thank Abnix and Artemis), and improved. Currently, I only have it uploaded to Fileplanet (sorry Gerbil).

This is a large dual-objective map where each team must grab and cap 2 objectives. As such, it should probably only be played with 20+ players. Scalewise, it takes 1:50 to run from the allied spawn to the furthest objective (there are 2), disassemble the radio cabinet (the other requires dyno) and run back to the truck. This is about the same as mp_Ice which takes (me anyways) 1:40 to run from the axis spawn, grab the docs, and return them to the transmitter.

In addition to the map files and README, the .zip also contains a summary graphic that lays out all of the interesting points of the map. I highly recommend that you take a look at this first to get an overall familarization with the map.

FWIW, this is the map formerly known as Istanbul. While the city of Istanbul was the initial inspiration, I will state right now that the map has no resemblance to the real city with the exception of a couple of location names. Still, it was a fun map to put together and I look forward to comments, suggestions, and bug notifications so that I can make it even better.

  1. Yeah, there is light leakage in many spots. I might try to fix some of them or i might just give up

  2. I will upload the file to pggamemods, just haven’t gotten around to it

  3. If anyone objects to the signage, other than not being authentic Turkish, I can remove them in the next build

Very Very nice. I just got it and flew around in it a bit and it looks very good. That turkish guy who bitched should be proud of you.

With my first impressions though I have a complain. The white marble you’ve used on the mosque looks bad. It feels almost as if the mosque was not textured at all. My advice is to take that texture go into photoshop and make it a little more yellow and a little more worn out (old and dirty), cause it looks very weird right now. You have this whole city which has very nice colors and then this mosque which is just white. Similar problem in those underground passages. You’ve used the same texture everywhere. Looks a little drafty. Maybe make the columns or ceilings something different?

But other than that I like it a lot. post some servers that are hosting it.

i actually replaced the marble textures on the mosque with the white stucco wall texture to make it less bright for those who max out their brightness settings.

Hi, I just entered the map into my server rotation to test it, and though I like the style of it, and the “Take me back to Constantinopel” track, and all the features etc (is that birds flying away from the trees when you pass them ?) I really think the map is either too large or it’s made for really large teams ? With few players on it’s just too big which is a shame, as I really like it, it’s got a bit of that Market Garden feeling but in a different city-type.

Btw, the server is using http redirect so anyone who wants a fast download could just join the Billskirnir server (still dynamic IP so you have to find it in the browser…)

Anyway, here’s a bug that does not seem to have been posted yet.
The name of the map is in the wrong place :

Yes, I am aware of the name name issue. Other people have run into that. I’m not sure how far over the pin has to be in order for the map names to register correctly.

Also, I deliberately made the map large to cater to the larger servers. Recommended player number in the readme is 20+ I believe. Just like you can’t really play Market Garden (you can, but it won’t be much fun), you can’t really play this map with a small number of people

Retextured a good bit of the cistern level. I replaced the brown brick pattern with a whitewashed finish and then used a dark tile color on the floor/steps (creative license)

Also replaced the axis radar obj with docs (radio codes) - thanks hummer for making the trans_red model. The axis box of gold is also gone and will be replaced by goldbars similar to the ones in RTCW as soon as I can get some help making them. I’ve already made the CM icon and the gold.tga texture is already in the pak0/models/multiplayer folder.

Nice job, but it feels a little flat. Maybe u should add some terrain parts so it doenst feels like the worlds largest flat area.

Had a nice time in the bazaar, :clap: at the signs!

Thanks for the observations. Some, I’ve already fixed, some of the misaligned wood textures are going to be a bear, and I might just skip that
