he has made quite a few topics regarding that particular topic,
Bye Bye SD !
Whilst he never quite managed to articulate his points very well and always came across as aggressive towards Brink he had some valid concerns and like many others he’s simply abandoned hope that Brink can be salvaged now at this stage. Yeah he didn’t need to make a new thread each week though. Anyway the moment has passed by now for many, I’m not quite there myself but I suspect it wont be too long before I too lay Brink to rest.
They are people on these boards that obsoletely love Brink and that’s great, for them, what they don’t seem to understand that we all had different expectations of Brink and by that I don’t mean I was expecting ET or ET:QW reskinned before wolfnemesis suggests otherwise. We expected a game crafted with the same love and attention as their previous games.
The core game is quite nice but is spoiled by several avoidable factors for some folk such as poor UI, unreliable automated actions, lack of end user customisation (not talking about barbie stuff), excessive hand holding and much more.
Then they are other things that aren’t quite readily apparent but do make me feel less inclined to care for the game. Little things like the humorous Vsays in ET and ET:QW, they were legendary, they added a certain charm to those games that is lacking in Brink. Or how about the cheesy end of round voices in ET:QW, little things like that which lightened up the mood, their past games never took themselves super seriously, Brink on the other hand seems to try too hard.
The reason why so many of us that didn’t quite enjoy Brink as much as we had hoped have stuck around is that we’ve put 100s possibly 1000s of hours into their past games and I’m not just talking playing them, many of us have been making mods, maps and movies for their games for the past 8 years. I myself have made about 20 maps and worked on 4 mods for SD’s games.
We know their games like the back of our hands so when we got our hands on Brink we were a little disheartened with some of the design decisions and some of the bugs and stuff but instead of hating on them we have tried helping SD by pinpointing faults in the game and suggesting improvements. Apparently this makes us haters and we are stuck in the past or whatever but as long as we get a better game next time round you can call us what you like.

That was beautiful, I almost shed a tear (and I’m not being ironic).
We even informed them about the effect of their design choices while the game was still in development.
It makes me sad that they ignored those concerns and now look how the game turned out to be.

Gotta say while I have not agreed with Chris on a few things he is right here. I miss the vsays “I’m a medeeeek” being my favourite from times past and the f key drives me mad as a medic but at the end of the day it’s a fun game to play. Brink: Enemy Territory anyone?
I couldn’t care less about crosshairs though. If it takes resources away from new maps and abilities and kit. I’m really not interested!
So bye bye bombaklak. Can I have your Fallout code?
It wouldn’t though, it requires a GUI coder and possibly a few days of a 2D artists’ time, maps require level designers and some artists, new abilities and such require artists and game coders.
They have had trouble trying to find a GUI coder though so there’s nothing much that can be done yet. I’m still not sure why it’s so hard to find one though. I guess it’s not exactly the ‘sexiest’ role in game development so not many people do it as a specialty?

It’s all in how you sell it:
Look at those curves, and those sexy, pert buttons. Doesn’t it just invite you to touch it and experiment? It’s such an affordable design that you’re instantly familiar with it yet excited by it like an insatiable mistress.
Or:
It’s an unobtrusive, minimalist HUD with as much information as we could fit in while trying not to overwhelm the end user. It should be easy to learn and use.

Surely an opening for the saviour of Brink to command ridiculously high wages? There is money to be made here people!
[QUOTE=BomBaKlaK;371080]So now it’s official I have nothing to do over here.
Boring to play a game where i’m running around without any purpose, playing with bots better than most part of the payer who still there … Tired to overcome so many things, even a ****ing dam crosshair and HUD !
Dev who dont want (or can’t) listen to the community …
So small community, without any support …
We have actually 2 server running your game,
I support you SD with french fan site (http://www.brink-france.fr/)
with our clan (http://clan-aieuh.xooit.fr/index.php)
since month before the release.
And I’m so desapointed after 300h of game that I already preorder BF3 to move on !
300h on BRINK when I expected to spent month on ! maybe years like your previous games . Cause I play your games since the release of Wolf ET and the first beta day of ETQW. You were the only studio I follow since so long.
Now all my support is gone ! the servers are still there until we can move it on BF3 !
Still maybe play a bit like this before sleeping (cause i’m bored of it ! really ! Ican’t play more than few maps …)
I’m really done !
Dont want to stay over here to spent my time pissing against the wind,
I have a lot of other things to do, like flik my bic.
So have fun all !
maybe cya sometimes in game, but definitly done with this forum !
ONE FAN BOY IS DEAD !

so, you played a game you dont like for 300 hours? and you moan? bf3 will be a great looking car crash of a game as its bc3 and not bf3 as promised.
Is UI Designer / Artist really a ‘job’ though? I always thought it was done by texture artists and programmers. Despite the UI being a major importance of the game, it doesn’t sound as broad as animator, or programmer, or texture artist, or sound designer, etc… Wouldn’t it be best to hire a free lancer 2D artist/programmer nearing the final stage of development?
but bf3 isnt a true bf game. no commanders. no spawn on SL only etc etc.
its turning into bc3.
The pretty graphics etc may be done by texture / graphic artists but the actual design and functionality is a seperate field. I’ve seen UIs that looked awesome but were horrible to use because a graphic designer did it from the point of view of “this will look good” and not “this will be the best / most usable interface”.
Well thats exactly what they’ve done with Brink and look what we have got, it requires a dedicated person to do a good job of it.
Get a talented modder to do it for free and say he can add that to his portfolio as official work
Solution for PC (And the competent gamer that’s fine with running mods) is SDK, it kinda leaves console users in the lurch… though apparently most don’t care about it.
