bushwhackers auto turret

Maybe it’s just me but i find this ability incredibly annoying to play against and not particularly fun to use either

In terms of using it the only ‘interesting’ decision is where am i going to place it and it’s just gonna be hidden round a corner 90% of the time. When it gets a kill you don’t get a buzz it’s just like ‘o someone fell for it, nice’
I mean what is the skilled way of using these? If you put them in any obvious place they’re gonna get torn to shreds it seems like hiding them round a corner and waiting for someone to run past without noticing is basically the only use they have.

I watched an old dev video where a merc had a deployable MG nest which looked quite cool, what happened to that? too powerful?

And in terms of playing against it I’m just sick to death of getting insta killed by it when i fail to check some random corner behind a bin where it’s been hidden, it feels really cheap and frustrating

agree / disagree?

I’m amazed at how easy these mini turrets are to trick in to being useless.

Not a fan of them not being scary even for a lower HP merc.

They should be pretty terrifying to any class that’s not a heavy.

But there’s already been a public outcry against suppressing fire style plays in this game from the vocal majority so it’s not likely to get any more threatening.

I’ve never had too much trouble with turrets myself, though they can be quite an annoyance on certain map areas. I had my first go at it again tonight (hadn’t really touched it since way back during my experiments with bush turrets) and my turret got MVP. Maybe it’s because I was sticking my turrets in corners, which appeared to be more difficult to knock down? Either that or it’s the fact that I cross-fire it up with the SMG and let the turret soak up the street cred hah. The turret does do some incredible work when there’s too many player distractions to prioritize disabling it *cough let’s get some FF ploz.

I’d like to see particular abilities counter turrets (and mines for that matter) more effectively. Maybe have sensor nades detect both, and allow for some means of disabling/capturing them alternatively for some mercs. Atm I find the best methods of disabling turrets is (1) pre-firing (2) ironsighting (3) wall-hop knifing. They tend to go down really fast for me that way, so maybe there’s an issue with their hitbox?

Turrets are realy great weapon. and yes they are annoying, when placed good. Very distracting. =)
but at the end of the day, they are weak/stationary/and have a lock on time.
I realy think that they are well balanced. I can kill a soldier together with my turret, just like proxy can do with mine+ shotgun shot.

as for their hitbox - it does sometimes seem incorrect (some of its visible parts)

Turrets are great and make up for the relatively lower power of bushwhacker’s main weapon nicely, especially against the heavy classes - very well balanced now. They are easy to take out though if you know what you are doing. It gets a lot of flack for being a ‘noob weapon’ but it takes some skill to be effective and not just hiding it around corners.

I’m a big fan of the turret myself, and was using it pretty effectively tonight (albeit in 2v2 games). It’s really all about placement that makes it either completely useless or as INF3RN0 said, the MVP.

The trick obviously is to get set in a nook that has a great area of focus that you know the enemy will have their back to. Doing that, plus making sure they’re distracted is a huge win.

Either way, I have a love / hate relationship with them… which I think is a good thing.

XT has a very different goal/style to games like TF2 where solid defences are a thing.

I see the turret more as a offensive tool. To allow the merc to actually defuse C4 alone a little safer. Or to place around a corner to catch people that chase you off gaurd. It’s not supposed to be a like TF2. XT has a decent feeling of push and pull and I love the way it works. Stagnant defences just end up being stagnant gameplay to me
