Bushwhacker Sentries

(Destia) #1

I feel like the Sentries that Bushwhacker put down are just too easy to kill, they aren’t scary enough. I mean, proxy’s mines are hard to see and easy to place, place them on a bomb or such and boom, a kill, plus you get 2 of them. The sentries CD is 30 seconds when I play him, hardly gets any kills. I mean it’s pretty much useless. I like the concept of those kind of classes in games but his sentry is TOO weak to do anything and I personally think the cool down for it doesn’t match it’s usefulness.

I would like to know who else agrees that its too easy to kill. I don’t want to have it OP though, just enough so it isn’t bum-rushed all the time, or at least reduce the CD to 10 seconds or something. It’s destroyed in 10 bullets and you can easily corner-abuse it.

It feels like (for my country) $12.00 is way too much for that merc.

But that’s just my opinion.

The sentry is fine granted they recently nerfed the HP of the Sentry (which imo was uncalled for) but it still works as always. The important part is the turret placement in an open space or obvious spot it goes down without doing much. But in a good spot (observe where others place the turret or in what spot a turret was that killed you) it does wonders.
However a few things.

 • Don’t expect the turret to do much on his own.
 • Don’t expect the turret to do more, than slowing down against a good player
 • Turrets are a good warning tool place it and you get a notification as soon as someone enters that area.
 • Always fight with your turret, the enemy can’t shoot you both and you get more damage in
 • hard to do but you can reclaim a turret right afte it gets destroyed (the smoke animation) doing so greatly decreases the cooldown.

I know all of that and I do do that. I still feel like its just a bit under-powered for the price also compared to other mercs. I usually put my turrets right around corners so the back is diagonal to the corner wall I’m placing it next to, so when they walk unsuspecting it, they at least get damaged, but even though, I just feel like you shouldn’t be able to rush a sentry. It just doesn’t feel right. Maybe they could make the reaction time it takes for a sentry to attack a bit faster, because people do corner kill them, I’ve done it and I think its ridiculous.

Again, these are just my opinions, I’d like to hear everyone else’s too

I’v only had either really easy experiences with the Auto Turret. Sometimes its just placed in some clear location and I’m out of its range or I’m able to kill it around a corner no issue. OTHER TIMES the damn thing is up in a spot I never expected and I’m right in it’s view, it’s owner is nearby distracting me, or other things are just stopping me from being able to take it out. Overall I think it’s pretty practical if you treat it right and don’t expect it to fight the whole other team on it’s own.

(HeroToZero) #5

The turret is actually real good tool if you know how to use it, like most abilities. personally I prefer it to Proxy’s mines as you can get one or two kills with mines pretty easily, with skill you can go on a massive kill streak and lock down a corridor with Bushwacker’s turret. However the health downgrade was uncalled for.

(Yahiko94) #6

Its definiteley not underpowered. Atleast not if you are fighting with the turret. Its like fighting 2vs1 or 1,5vs1 if you know what I mean…

I think the sentry is fine as it is.

If I were to make any changes to it, it would be to let the sentry shoot a cloaked Phantom. It wouldn’t reveal the Phantom but it would be someway to serve as a warning to the team that a Phantom is in the area and is already a defensive tool in most cases anyway.

(meditativePillar) #8

Turret uses aimbot. Nerf plz.

(Conqelson) #9

I think it’s fine but I’d raise the melee resist, someone shouldn’t be able to knife it in two swings.

(Mayple) #10

I disagree, if your turret is getting knifed you should try to protect it better or position it in a better location.

(Boto 1ava) #11

The hitboxes on the turret are pretty bad sniping it can be really hard sometimes. I usually just shoot the light most of the time it usually works but newer players may have a harder time

(singular) #12

I believe the turret is suppose to aid you in getting kills, but not as a standalone or reliable method to getting kills by itself. Use it as an extra set of eyes to watch your back while covering another angle for example. The turret will butter them up for you for a potentially easier kill. Especially if you have either/both of the abilities that increase its health and lock-on times.

(frzn) #13

I wish that I could rotate it when I place it so that I had more placement freedom and that the lock on perk helped more. Other than that I think it’s fine. It does plenty of damage, is threatening enough to be a distraction even against good players, and you get an engineer kit with a kek.

(opicr0n) #14

+1 on rotating ability, just like Alien Swarm’s turrets.

(RyePanda) #15

You can get killstreaks with it if placed right, it could use a bit more health but it’s still viable.

First you have to figure out good spots for it. There are few on every map. Make the enemy have to expose more to take it out.

If you are a aggressive player like me, get used to constantly put it down and pick it up as you advance, it’s like having a sidekick

It’s also great for watching you back. Even if it gets killed fasts, you know there’s someone coming.

If i’d change anything about it, i’d give it a bit more health (i hear it was nerfed but i’m relatively new). One nader shot, or half a clip of anything taking it out might be a bit too much.

I think it’s fine as is. If anything, I would shorten the setup time for it and lower the health and cooldown for it more. Make it something you could use in combat.

(LANshark) #18

place your turret in unexpected positions; if there is a crate i tend to put it on top so the enemies have to readjust their aim. Also, protect your turret without standing on top of it (usually behind so the sentry doesn’t shoot you). You still get the benefit of fighting what is effectively a 2v1 so the enemy has to choose what target to attack.

(LifeupOmega) #19

Honestly they’re rewarding once you learn how to ambush and set up with them. I never had an issue with their health, it feels right, and if you need more Sturdy now works.

For example, not many people expect a Bushwacker to get behind them on Underground first, but if you get a turret up on that balcony near defender spawn you can confuse and stall, and even kill, 3+ people before it gets taken out. It’s a fantastic tool for trapping people between you, your team, and itself. It can give you that vital time to set the C4 off.

I just wish we could rotate, some spots would only work if I could set it right in the corner and not jutting out.
