Bushwacker's Turrets

(CCP115) #1

I’ve had enough. I’ve had enough running around pubs, lying to myself and saying “Maybe this time I’ll put my turret in a good spot” only for it to get destroyed less than 35 seconds later.

I’m going to go insane. Someone please teach me how to use Bushwacker’s turrets, or at least give me a link to some useful advice. Currently, I feel as if he’s the worst merc in the game, and I know he isn’t, but how to play bushwacka? ees hard.

I thrive for this knowledge as well. I was going to make a thread but oh well. If you’re writing advice you’re helping me as well as CCP.

Put it where the enemy won’t be facing. Ideally place it behind them and have them focus on what’s in front of them. In a cross fire it’s almost a guaranteed kill.

I’ll let you in on a little trick I like to use when playing Bushwhacker.

  1. Place your Turret on an elevated surface, somewhere where it can still get opponents.
  2. Fight your opponents on lower ground, keep them in range of the turret.
  3. Profit.

This method ensures that you’re pinned as the primary target as you will be the one engaging the enemy, but at the same time your weapon AND the turret is doing damage to opponent which means your DPS will rise exponentially meaning that you will be able to win your fights pretty easily.

Basically the core element of Bushwhacker is to not expect to your Turret to kill plenty of people alone, it always works better when you assist it. If it takes damage, just reclaim it and replace it.

That’s a good one but it doesn’t provide any major ground cover because of how high it is, still a nice one though. If the enemy team are dumb enough you can wipe them out constantly. Basically just run around and check out some cool places you can put turrets.

Other good places:

  • Trainyard 2nd stage, left hand (from attackers view) sniper area.
  • Trainyard 3rd stage, warehouse in window.
  • Underground 1st stage, top of the center room.
  • Underground 1st stage, on pipes.
  • Underground between 1st-2nd stage, the high pipes.
  • Underground 2nd stage bottom of elevator, next to elevator, on top of carts/shelves.
  • Terminal 1st stage, either sniper zone.
  • Terminal 1st stage, hallway, atop the staircase.
  • Terminal 2nd stage, on top of containers (I think)

More to come. I’ll post screenshots once I gather up a large sum of locations.

Just place it really high or where you know an objective carrier must go because they won’t have a weapon out.

Some Tips:

  1. Place it where people may not be expecting it.
  2. Place it where it can cover you or an objective.
  3. Use it as an early warning system: if you get a “hit notification” and you aren’t firing your weapon, or it dies; someone is by your sentry, go kill them.
  4. Set it up to create a cross fire with you.
  5. Use them as force multipliers.
  6. These aren’t TFC/2 sentries, they are weak, they are killed easily, do decent damage, but not a lot. These aren’t your main weapon.
  7. REPLACE IT if it dies. Generally people seem to think that when they kill a sentry, it won’t be there when they respawn and charge head first into the same area. Surprise, its back. Even better is to be right next to it when it dies and instantly deploy another. Catch them off guard as they just destroyed it.
  8. You get one every minute (right?) so don’t get attached to the one you set up 5 minutes ago.
  9. GUARD IT. Set it up covering your back or cover its back. If someone sneaks up behind your turret, they’re focused on taking it out not taking you out. Cut them down and re-deploy. Or just redeploy with the new one facing them while they have their knife out in the open.

Last and certainly not least, get a loadout with at least lock-on this will increase your kills considerably. If you’re really into sentries, get BL81 with lock on and steady (faster and stronger turrets).

I believe the cooldown is 30 seconds. Though even once a turret is destroyed there is a narrow window when you can reclaim it so you can shorten the wait to 4 seconds if you pull it off.

I think it’s 35 seconds, and when you reclaim it knocks 30 seconds off. never before has waiting 35 seconds felt so long in my life.

I might invest in a BL81 as well, I currently have what I think is the best gun loadout, but it doesn’t buff my sentry at all.

I prefer the kek-10 and M9 loadout that has lock-on. In my opinion having steady is not worth trading your kek for a blishlock.

(3N1GM4) #12

Hmph, according to the wiki it’s 30s. Man it always seems like forever lol. Just reinforces my point though.

(CCP115) #13

30 seconds? You’ve got to be kidding me, it feels like a minute.

(watsyurdeal) #14

Flanks, place them on a flank on offense.

(Sir_Slam) #15

Your first mistake was playing pubs.

Seriously can we get a 5v5 pub? The amount of errant chaos in any player count higher than that makes the game a complete clusterf+ck.

I only play 6v6 pubs.

Competitive doesn’t really exist in Oceania, and anything above 6v6 is intolerable.

I have a question regarding bushwacker’s playstyle as a whole. You guys are saying set up crossfires and guard your turret which makes sense, but does that mean I have to camp with my turret? Is bushwacker just a defensive camper?

P:S How do I utilize bushwacker on offense?

There are generally three basic ways to use turret.

Early Warning: Offensive / Defensive
Set it up near an objective, and monitor it with the hit notifications or its health while you’re off fighting or watching another route/objective.

Camp / Defend with it Defensive
Set it up near you while it watches your back, etc. This can be while defending or attacking an objective (let it shoot as you arm/repair) or bomb (to prevent defuses)

Fight with it: Offensive
Go fight. While on the move, when you see someone coming, or start getting attacked, deploy your turret.

  • You can even throw it out in the open, people generally go for the turret first as they fear the auto aim aspect of it. While their shooting it, you shoot them. They’ll probably kill the turret, but you will kill them. If they don’t kill it first and kill you instead, the turret will more than likely get them anyway (and hopefully before they gib you)
  • Run away and deploy your turret around a corner as trap for the guy chasing you.
  • If you clear out an area or get behind the enemy defenders, throw your turret up and let it wreck havoc on them as you tag em in the back.

Another fun and dangerous approach is set it up right before you melee charge them. They’ll freak out and the turret will start hitting them.

(bizarreRectangle) #19

So I don’t really set up crossfires on offence?

(3N1GM4) #20

You can, but its a bit more tricky as there are usually more people on defense, and they will/can take down a turret rather quickly if its on their side of the map.
