Bushwacker Feels weak

I’ve been using him because I felt the sentry would be good. That is when I notice the sentry can not take any damage and gets destroyed with ease. The gun can’t detect the invisible samurai mother trucker which gets really annoying but I get why, but it leads to where he can take two swings with his sword to destroy the gun with out taking any damage or barley any even if I put it in a corner protecting its back. It has trouble dealing with more than two people. I understand that you should be with it but when I go to leave for a little amount of time it seems to get destroyed leaving me with two people not even downing one. I’m probably not qualified to give professional advice but either having two sentries would be nice or the one sentry has more bullet resistance or even more health. I’m not exactly sure if this would unbalance the game or not but I feel this merc is abused compared to Skyhammer, Rhino, and even the medics.

Bushwhacker is considered the best engineer because his turret is like a sixth player. That said, it’s not without counters. It won’t fire at enemies behind chest-high cover. It won’t fire at players that just peek around a corner, and it won’t finish enemies. You just have to surprise people with it. Putting it in corners or up high helps, but staying near your sentry is incredibly powerful because you can fire at someone while your turret does so too, this means the enemy is being fired upon from 2 places and they will die almost every time.

If turret is a sixth player, that’s a one-armed player with dementia. I think Bushwacker is popular because he has the best SMGs among engies, and decent health. Proxy can have Hochfir, but come on, 20 less health.

Turret is not great on its own, unless it’s somewhere enemies don’t expect it. But it truly shines when you set up crossfire. Think in terms of crossfire. Put the turret in the more boring, safer position of the two. Examples:

  • Turret in the garage on Trainyard, and you opposite of it on the stairs
  • Turret facing objective between the rock and the bus on Chapel. You, as attacker, hang around the objective delivery zone. If enemies don’t go into open you automatically get crossfire. And they don’t like going into open to feed snipers.
  • You on the stairs down from the security room (Underground), turret to the right overlooking the exit from spawn.
  • In the Bridge generator room for barrier. Put it on the stairs or above entrance, stand on the other side yourself. As soon as enemies enter they must choose between you and turret. I kill whole waves this way.
  • As for the idiot with katana, put the turret in the corner of the room with first objective. Stand in the opposite corner. As soon as he drops down, he’s dead. Either he goes for you and turret kills him, or you shoot him in the back. He can’t assault the objective room without destroying side doors.
  • On Chapel as defender, put turret in one of the niches below bridge and just look down the road. They’re used to thinking those niches (and the doorway) are safe. BAM, crossfire.

I’m going to make a thread with screenshots.

Thanks but I already know this but my issue comes with getting a decent loadout. The one I use is not bad but the smg it has is very uncomfortable to me. I do try putting it in surprise locations but it ends up getting destroyed from that invisible samurai class. I’m not exactly sure if would be fair but sometimes I wish the turrent would attack the samurai in cloak.

I gotta agree. In pubs, Bushwacker’s sentry can get mobbed incredibly easy. At the same time, you can flank more and get easy kills as there are a lot of potato pubbers.

The sentry isn’t very good, so sadly you do have to stick with it. It is very effective against flanks though, as usually flanks are done by light classes with lots of speed. The turrets perfect aiming and tracking allows for easy flank repulsion.

Also I imagine Bushwacker is one of the best engies in Execution, as every kill matters, and enemies that waste time on a turret could be put at a serious disadvantage.

If Bushwhacker is anything, he’s far from weak. Use the turret as a distraction whilst you nail the enemy from another angle and your DPS on the target becomes insane.

The Turret doesn’t need high HP. After every encounter just replace it and it will be restored to full health. Unless you put your turret in a really sneaky spot, don’t expect it to take on an entire team.

I’m a good shot, love getting behind enemy lines as an objective runner, but turrets are the #%#$%@ bane of my existence. Either they catch me by surprise and I get creamed, or they take forever to remove, while I’m getting shot from every direction.

He may ‘feel’ weak because your turret doesn’t always slaughter what it encounters, but the distraction it gives and the damage it does adds up quickly.

That, and you get the better SMG’s, so that’s a big plus.

The turrets aren’t meant to be a stable last line of defense. They act more of as distractions to buy yourself time.

(watsyurdeal) #9

Nope, it is you who is weak. (Viking moment right here)

But seriously, you’re likely using the turret wrong. I never set one up to guard an area on it’s own, typically I set it up to do crossfire situations, or on a flank since the enemy typically doesn’t have time to react to it.

It’s a trap, it’s not a area denial tool like it is in other games.

(Grave_Knight) #10

As Watsyurdeal says, it’s meant to either suppress the enemy forcing them to use a different route or risk injury, or as a trap to lure the enemy into.

Keep in mind this game is balanced around the 5v5 comp mode.

Fuck 'in 8v8 is a nightmare. Nothing lasts a full wave with that many players. Between all the airstrikes, nades and stray bullets its a wonder that anything gets accomplished. Its the entire reason I exclusively play comp, its the game mode that this game was made for.

In comp matches, I can assure you that the Bushwhacker is a solid tool. Put that little bastard in a corner and watch him destroy flanking Proxies. Or create the crossfire and confuse people as they start taking damage from both sides. I dont know the exact DPS of getting hit with both turret and KEK damage, but its enough to chew a Rhino to bits in only seconds.

You’ve just gotta move it around a little. Don’t leave it sit too long, change it up. Start putting it in weird places and see how long it takes for people to figure it out.

In pubs, don’t place the turret where an enemy will approach it head-on! Exception: you’re behind it at all times and have good aim. It’s also okay to put turret indoors looking outdoors, because then enemies trying to peak shoot it will have to spend more time in the open (snipers, airstrikes…).

I always use loadouts with Lock On, and ignore those with Steady. If enemy can afford time to shoot my turret, it means I’m doing something wrong.
