Build-in voicecomm system?

(DB Genome editor) #1

I’m just curious since I haven’t seen any mention of it while there have been numerous posts mentioning 3rd party systems: will DB have some sort of built-in voice communication system? And if so, when can we expect to see that make an appearance in the game?

I get the impression that most comp players have their favorite 3rd party application and might not care too much about a built-in one, but I think it can be a bit of a turn off for new players if they have to install additional software for something as basic as communicating with their teammates. Never mind that without a common built-in system, you can pretty much forget about communication in pubs. Yeah, I know that’s never great to start with, but sometimes you come across a couple of people that are not complete morons and being able to communicate can make a huge difference…

I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t be included. It seems to be the right thing to do these days. IIRC it wasn’t an immediate feature of ET:QW, but it was one of its best.

They already said it was planned to be included if there was sufficient resources, but not high priority right now.

Thanks for the info! Would be nice to see it mentioned somewhere in the road map if they are seriously considering it…

Have never used built in voice in any game, ever. (nor will I) :expressionless:

Dont always look on yourself …

ETQW Voip was/is nice, used it very often, created a lot of fun

TF2´s VOIP is excellent

Please make VOIP a high priority! (i.e done sooner, rather than later.)

In which regard, since it isn’t the voice quality.

Please dont include imo.

TS3 is good enough

dont waste time on that

actually if you do built it in, just let ppl pay for using it <-- that should show my interest tbh

I also agree that third party systems are better than ingame, but the problem is you can’t force people to join your ts server when they join your server. Maybe that’s your intention, but I think that without VoIP players are missing an experience that enhances the game.

TS servers are only good for people who use TS (as opposed to Vent / Mumble etc. both of which IMO are better than TS) and changing TS (or any external comms server) when changing game server is of course impractical. In-game VOIP is a great feature, as long as you can mute individual players.
