BSP problem

(Thej) #1

Hello.

can someone tell me what BSP command they run to get the full compile, cause mine keeps crashing, with the ones in ET.

(Thej) #2

Anyone??

Other people have reported similar problems, which, as far as I know, have not been resolved. As a workaround, you can try running q3map2.exe from a command prompt, or better yet, make a batch script.

i can get normal bsp -meta and the final with old style lighting to work, the other meta ones crash the editor.

I get the BSP crashing just before the VIS process. It seems to miss something. The only way I can get through it is to compile twice each time with the same options. The second compile somehow gets through lol

I’ve found that for some reason when compiling through the editor, it spawns the vis compiler stage before the bsp stage finishes (hence the error “can not find map.bsp” that Marko commented on.

I’ve also seen cases where the compile finished, I loaded the map in the game, but it was still the old bsp. ???

I just use a batch script everytime now.

Thx for the replies peeps.
Glad to see im not the only having this problem(although im not glad that it happens ofourse  )
I guess i have to make a batchfile then

Personally I can’t see the benefit of using the editor for compiling when you can do the job perfectly well with a good batch file!

OK hands up all those who have not read the manual we nicely did for you!!! Yes under the section “Compiling maps” is a sample batch for you to use that nicely compiles maps outside of the editor. Its even titled “Sample Compile Batch File” … sigh

heh heh socker! Thank You for that… heh… (the little done - the vast undone)

you know all these gamers have a horrible sense of humor! …

since I too am having trouble with Bsp commands…
well, I tried to use Q3map2 V2.5.4 last night using the same .bat file that Spalsh Damage supplied, with paths set correctly, and it would not run at all, any advice?

really I want to know which version of Q3map2 has highest success rate, so I can get the correct version setup and running…

Thanks again, Sock!

Yeh in that same bit u refer to a sdmap2 in sdradiant folder, to bad it isnt anywhere to be found…sigh

(chavo_one) #11

Are you being serious here Thej or sarcastic? I can’t tell. If you are being serious, sdmap2 was the internal compiler name. Ours is called q3map2. It has the same features as sdmap2, just a different, more familiar name.

(Thej) #12

Wel i was being sarcastic actually, but its strange to have the tutor refer to a compiler we dont have.

(Loffy) #13

I always use the editor for compiling. It works. Are there any drawback with using this method for creating the bsp?
(Should I learn to do the job with a batch file instead?)
This isnt a relly big question, as Im struggling with scripting atm.

Doesn’t really matter where you compile it from, the end result is exactly the same. It can be a good idea to run the compile with a batch file if you have very little memory in your machine. Like 256 meg or less and if the map is getting big.
