bsay not quite vsay but better than nothing

(Sprog) #1

Bit miffed that the vsay command has been left out of Brink as this was a great way to communicate on the fly without stopping to type in their previous titles. I know they have added voip, not sure if its working in game yet as I’ve not tried it out as I’m normally on vent with my mates.

Anyway enough waffle … I knocked up this cfg file to basically bind a load of commands to the numpad on my keyboard so that I can quick chat to the rest of the team/server. Its nothing special as anyone who has played ET games before will have most likely dabbled with them.

bind kp_numlock "say Great shot!"
bind kp_slash "say Good game"
bind kp_star "say Hi"
bind kp_minus "say Bye"

bind kp_home "sayteam Follow me"
bind kp_uparrow "sayteam Cover me Im going for the objective"
bind kp_pgup "sayteam Defend the objective"

bind kp_leftarrow "sayteam Enemy disguised as ME!!"
//bind kp_5 "sayteam "
//bind kp_rightarrow "sayteam "

bind kp_end "sayteam Sorry :["
bind kp_downarrow "sayteam I need a medic"
bind kp_pgdn "sayteam I need ammo"

bind kp_ins "sayteam Thank you :]"
bind kp_del "sayteam My supply bar is recharging..." //applies on both del keys

bind kp_plus "team Oops :/"
bind kp_enter "sayteam Your welcome :]"

I saved this as bsay.cfg in the following folder …\Steam\steamapps\common\brink\base

Then added +com_allowconsole 1 to the launch options of Brink in Steam. The launch options are found by right clicking brink in your Steam games list and selecting Properties, then just click the Set Launch Options buttons and add the +com_allowconsole 1 line in the box that comes up and click OK.

After launching Brink run a challenge and don’t leave the spawn. Press the " ` " button (to the left of 1), this will bring down the console so you can run the cfg file. In the console type -
[i]exec bsay[/]

You should see executing bsay, now test to make sure when you press the keys the chat comes up correctly.

Feel free to amend the messages to suit your own tastes, I tried to copy/use the most relevant ones from RTCW and the ET series.

Note:
updated the instructions to running the cfg as after a bit of testing it appears that the exec command added to launch options for Brink doesnt seem to run the cfg. I also noticed that having a " ’ " in your message will cause it to lose anything you typed after is
eg.
I’m here
will show as
I

(light_sh4v0r) #4

Good effort, cheers

(kilL_888) #5

good idea, could have been by me.

going to make one of them configs myself, i think.

(light_sh4v0r) #6

There’s a typo btw, Giong for objective.

(shibbyuk) #7

Thanks, I’ll probably use this or a variation of it. Particularly useful is the “sorry” message…

(McAfee) #8

How to script color on idtech 4?

(light_sh4v0r) #9

^#, with # being any character. Numbers are basic colours, letters are all sorts of shades. It doesn’t work in Brink though

(Singh400) #10

Good idea. I’ll nick it, and tweak it for myself.

(light_sh4v0r) #11

Really? Will check it again then, thanks for the headsup

(Scrupus) #12

Good idea, and indeed better than nothing - thanks for posting!

Added a few taunts, and a - :oppressor: ??

bind kp_leftarrow "say Kill the punks!"
bind kp_5 "say For the Makron!"
bind kp_rightarrow "say Eat the cops!"

Really miss the real voicechats though :frowning:

(legend123) #13

hey man i appreciate this topic. I was thinking of making a config with binds (I went all out in W:ET) but felt too lazy. thanks

(light_sh4v0r) #14

Interesting, somehow only KP_ins, KP_del, KP_enter and KP_plus work, all the other ones remain silent…
Numlock makes no difference btw. It could be my sidewinder setup though.

(Up&Down) #15

hey thanks for this , will come in very handy

(deems) #16

Good stuff! I’ll add this to my autoexec.cfg

I hope we can bind the actual ingame voice clips at some point. Like the voices that are automatically triggered. Has anyone looked at trying to do that?

(stealth6) #17

Nice initiative!

(dommafia) #18

Adding to guide when I get home  nice!

(Gradis) #19
