Brushes disappear in radiant

I just started to work with GTKradiant, before i worked with q3radiant, but now i want to make ET maps.
I made a box and made it hollow, and when i select 1 side of the box and press esc the brush disappears, and also when i select 2 sides the other 2 sides disappears.

um, then dont press esc?
