Brink's game manual

(helyx) #21

Do a lot of people read manuals? o.o I’m always told I’m in the minority when I say I read manuals before playing!

Aside from that, I do like seeing a well-done in-game tutorial. Not the kind that freezes the action every few steps to stick a dialog box in your face with ‘PRESS [THIS BUTTON] TO CROUCH!!’ though. That’s just annoying, especially on a replay…

I’m not worrying about the learning curve. It was one of the main points of criticism on QW so they’re bound to fix that.

Just dont kill trees! they are our friends you know!

Ingame manual should be enough to grasp the concept (run and shoot)

Peace

Yes. :stroggtapir:

I’ll read a manual if it comes with a game and quite enjoy it (especially any added humour etc that they tend to include), but since shifting to downloaded games lately I’ve noticed that I haven’t actually missed the manuals at all.

If a game truly requires a manual, they can include an HTTP manual, that can then include videos to make it even more useful.

SMART is for dummies, lol

they might as well just include a “manual” section in the in-game options, or just have tutorials.

(LyndonL) #28

This is true. Mind you - being Steam now, it would be quite easy to include an HTML manual. Lots of games have that where you right click on the game in Steam and can select to read the manual.

although an online manual is efficient, I would like to have something tangible, with nice artwork.

(LyndonL) #30

I’m sure it’ll come with the hardcopy box … maybe

its good change, not only because reducing ecologic inpact and publishing/shipping overhead, but [mainly]because most[~80%? depend genre]gamers more interested in game, rather in other parts of product package and this change help set more competing pricing.

p.s.
just hope publishers also pub “collectors” or “limited” editions with hardcopy manuals 4 products 4 people, whose really need it.
but obviously, its not always possibly economically.

Alot of games don’t even include a manual nowadays. Or, if they do, there’s not much info in there. I hope there’s a good one with Brink since SMART is such a new concept.

(LyndonL) #33

True, because it is such an immensely complex system. Aim, press button, do action. Yep, that needs excessive explanation

To all people asking if they still read manuals. Yes, they do. For console users they are especially good for whenever you need to take a bathroom break from the game.

As for contents:
Overview of the Ark, Security, and Resistance.
Discussion/Overview of the Character customizations (sections like appearance, explaining body types)
Explain and show a picture of features on a HUD.
SMART and some available moves for it.
Some abilities and specialties of each class
Overview of objective play.
Then just talking about lobbies and how to change them, ect.
