BRINKKIT: Config Tool.. released on Steam Forums

(KDL) #1

Just released yesterday, thought I would post it here. Seems like a good tool. Just wanted to let the community here know about it. I am in no way associated with this tool or its creation/website. It’s just something I saw on Steam User’s Forum. The author of the tool seems like he answers just about every question asked. He has been getting many thanks. Please read ALL the comments on the this release thread before installing BRINKKIT RELEASE THREAD.

Here is the Release thread on Steam Users Forum:

Please Install this at your on risk. Its just something I came across and thought might help some users out, considering ALL the set backs/problems clients have been having since Brinks release.
Please post back if this has helped you.

If anyone was wondering about the title of that Reddit page, the config tool is not official in the usual sense. This product was not created by Splash Damage or Bethesda and is not endorsed by either party.

There are some options in there that will definitely hurt performance (turning off portals!) and some that do not do anything (e.g. Video RAM cannot be changed, only detected). Also changing the audio channels in-game won’t necessarily give the desired results, you need to ensure your Windows Control Panel audio settings match.

Long story short: not officialised/endorsed by the makers of BRINK, use at your own risk.

you are talking about sound. how can we ensure that 5.1 surround is running? why is there no option in the menu?
config programs only exist when the game doesn’t offer enough options

It was not my intent whatsoever to make it seem as though Bethesda/SD has endorsed it as an official tool. It was a project for the reddit community. The “official” title was merely indicating that those on reddit can message the moderators of the subreddit for help regarding brinkkit.

I cannot change the title even as a moderator, but I will amend my wording elsewhere. And if you have suggestions or warnings that I should add to the tool about potential dangers, please do inform me. I’d love to have a 1 on 1 discussion on it.

Tool rocks, worth it for putting the FoV up from the consolised default of 70 and enabling raw mouse input.

(General_Zod) #6

What does raw input do exactly?

(AnthonyDa) #7

When using raw input, all Windows settings such as mouse sensitivity & acceleration are ignored. Only the game settings are applied.
Also if you are using Setpoint for example (or another software from your mouse manufacturer) the software settings are ignored when using raw input.

So it’s up to you to set it like you want.

(General_Zod) #8

Thanks. So it seems to be for consistency sake. I read people use this playing on lans if they are using a different computer as to ensure a consistent setting. But it doesn’t provide any mouse polling improvement does it? As in the game is bypassing windows and directly polling the input device.

We wouldn’t need these third party programs had you ported this game properly.
How about saying “thank you community developers for providing our playerbase with these helpful tools”?

And we wouldn’t need forum moderators if people <snip> stayed away from everything and just <snip>.
Way to be grateful to a guy doing all he can to help fix the game. How about saying “I’m sorry for being a <snip> to the people who make my games”?

Excuse me, <snip> but i don’t see the developers providing me with any solutions. No. You have to comb the internet and rely on the gaming community when it comes to abysmal ports like this. If this game was specifically made for me, like you so <snip> phrased it, it wouldn’t be in such a sorry state.

Go <snip>, please.

(erode) #12

I was disappointed at performance on launch. 15fps on my 5870. A patch and a driver update later I’m at 190fps so I can hardly complain. I just like to tinker with cvars and figured other people do. I don’t think config tools are necessary by any means.

(Nail) #13

the gaming community has always provided these tools

We totally appreciate how awesome our community is, but for legal reasons we have to be careful to clarify when something that is not official could be interpreted as such. The maker has contacted me directly and both of us understands each other’s position perfectly.

ok but your post didnt say - hey its a great tool , give it a go!

you said ‘Use at your own risk’ which implies its unhealthy to use

TO EVERYONE

the tool is great, does what it says on the box

its a shame the game didnt come with theses options available- I mean its a PC game, and there are lots of things to adjust for lots af varying systems, why not include these options into the options menu to begin with?

(Mustang) #16

It’s also introducing tweaks beyond supported configuration
Hence I believe the need to say, use at your own risk

Indeed, it’s one of the main reasons these tools get made. To tinker with settings that don’t get exposed otherwise! As the developer of the tool I am not advocating using the tool with utter disregard for the settings – the user still needs to be conscientious about the changes they make. I can’t support issues that arise from using it, I just bring the cvars forward in a pretty UI.
