Brinkconomy? Neutral area/Lobby?

(Otto) #1

(If this has been addressed already, sorry for this thread, couldn’t find any info about it)

In Game Economy Questions:
Will brink have a Trading system?
-If it dose what will be included? Cosmetics? Weapons? Accessories?
-Will I be able to buy and sell Weapons/Items at some form of NPC?
-Auction house?

Depending on the level of trade system, it would imply some level of neutral ground.

Lobby Questions:

-Is there going to be some Neutral areas that acts like a lobby in the city where all players can sandbox, form teams, meet friends, make new ones, chat, dance the funky chicken, etc?
-How do we join a match?
-How do we meet up with our friends?

God i hope not. im gonna take a stab and say u play tf2?

The elements you describe sound a bit too RPGish for this game. Lobby doesn’t exist at all afaik, and the matches will be made via matchmaking or using a server browser. Once you have people on your fireteam they will stay with you when you progress to the next server (if in campaign mode, not free play).

(Linsolv) #4

Yeah… not a fan of any of this. I hope not.

Brink is not tf2. Again.
You get weapons/customization options from leveling up and they are always there for you and you can’t delete/trade/craft them.
I think for attachments you do challenges with that weapon (25 kills for a Red dot sight) to gain them.

It was my understanding that challenges are seperate to in game. instead of "get 25kills for Weapon-A unlocks red-site " it will be more, play a seperate mission (ie not campagin) to unlock an item. eg play a level as a medic with revives only (bad example i know, but its all i could think of). If this is wrong someone feel free to correct/link me to the proper info

Is TF2 like this? WTF

(Striker92) #8

TF2 has a system in which u can purchase weapons and clothing for real money. Personally i dont like it.

Stretching for excuses to start more threads? I think so…

but we all can use a high post count

Not really, more or less you can trade weapons and cosmetics via trade requests, but it has the down side of interrupting game play unless you do it before a match has started.

A lot of games have a trade option.
A better example of what i am thinking about is borderlands, there are areas in towns and such where it is safe, you can drop and exchange weapons and implants. (oh hey can i try that shot gun? Sure, can I try that SMG? Hey mind if I go back to town to see if the shop has any new grenades?)

I don’t see anything wrong with a trade system, I know a lot of weapons I find in games I will never use, instead I would save them for my buddies and give them to them, and they do the same when they find something they know i would want.

What about the lobby environment? How do people form teams, find there friends and join teams? At what place do we customize equipment? Obviously not in the middle of a mission right?

Got a better idea how to learn about concepts not considered?

(LyndonL) #12

Borderlands is an open world environment. Brink is a map by map game more akin to traditional FPS rather than the RPGesque ones (even though some elements of Brink are RPGesque, the core gameplay is straight FPS Objective).

I think i can say with some accuracy purely on instinct, that brink happily wont have this feature.

In a game where things are unlocked through the leveling system and through achievements there isnt really any point. Unlike in tf2, it wont be a random thing you find or get given or whatever, leading to different levels of rarity.

Also it would be really lame.
Heavy hardcore resistance fighter: “hi do you mind if i trade you my hat, for those boots? they are just darling!”
Security : “omg of course, when i got them i thought these were so you!”

Lame/Camp/No.

(Otto) #14

A shame if it dosen’t have a neutral gathering place for random groups of people to meet up in, even with out trading, sand-boxing can be fun, chat, ask for advice about load outs and builds, show off gear, screw around w/e.

Just saying, its fun to waste time, while your wasting time.

Is this the first FPS you have ever played ?

(Otto) #16

A brife list:
Jedi knight 1-3
Battlefront 1&2
HL2 episodes 1-3
Older single player games that follow triditonal shooter gene aspects

Shooters with MMO aspects:
Fallout 3 & New Vegas (off-line)
TF2
Border lands
Global Agenda

The final three listed have some or all of these features. And brink clearly holds to haveing RPG values, and when you put RPG values in a online and or co-op game, the almost always come with most of the features i have asked about.

So I ask you, have you ever played a online PC shooter with RPG elements, unlockable ablitlys, unlockable and customizable equipment, perks, achievements etc?

Side question:
Why are there so many adversarial people on these forums? There are those who know where my points of reasoning is coming from and a politely discuss them. But then there are those who down right insulted when lines of question are border line to being out side the box.

The biggest FPS today are: BFBC2 and COD:BLOPS.

  • RPG elements: gaining “XP” for performing duties in both games (Mainly BC2)
  • Unlockable abilities: COD has the perks that augment gameplay n health etc. BC2 has unlockable abilities such as reviving, handing out ammo etc.
  • Customizable equipment: Not so much but to an extent. BC2 not really but you can buy the new skins.
  • Perks: Same as abilities.
  • Achievements: Many in BC2 and COD.

Killing Floor also has the same elements in it.

If you want “safe zones” and weapon swapping go play WOW or BLands… Brink is not one of those types of games (Don’t mean that in a harsh way, even though it sounds it).

No, I haven’t since I’m a console player and since this is a multi-platform game, you can never add such elements to a FPS, perhaps if the game was PC only, but it isn’t.

I hear what you are saying. I have already pre-ordered brink solely on the bases I’ve seen in the early trailers. I am still just as excited and interested in the game as I have ever been, and have excepted nothing from it more then a fun game.

What i want from the game is irreverent at this point, I am more interested in learning in as much as i can about the game. Both for my own knowable base, but more importantly I wish to use this knowledge to inform the some 200 potential clan members and friends i game with daily in games ranging from TF2-Minecraft-CSS-APB:Beta-or what ever we fancy at the time.

Many of my lines of Questions are actually extensions of my friends have asked me, I wish to make an informed answer to them, I want nothing more for them to get brink so we can all play together, but I know this game wont be for every one, and I don’t want my friends to waist a chunk of money they are not going to enjoy.

“safe zones” as it were, is not something i necessarily want or do not want. I definitely DO NOT want WoW.
Border Lands on the other hand had some good points, but it has it’s limitations, thus my friends and I haven’t played it in a while. However the word is, Borderlands 2 is suppose to be more of a MMO rather then a 4 man co-op.

Just because it’s a PC game doesn’t mean you can’t have these features, both borderlands and TF2 are multiplatform games, admittedly I have never played ether game first hand on a console, what i do know about them is TF2 pc vs Console versions are both different from what I understand the PC version has more updates and features then the Console versions, not because the console version can’t accommodate these things if it had to, but because the PC version is the most successful. You can’t be under the assumption that all 3 platforms are going to have identical, borderlands is from what I understand is very close the same on all platforms.

If the PC version proves to be substantially more popular, which looks very possible, these features may be added to the game(like they were at a later update on TF2) if they don’t already come with them from launch.

No there wont be any of these
