Brink won't load, shuts down after splash screen

(Darkorse) #1

I made an account just so I could get this issue fixed. I paid for this game, it damn well better work.

I’m using Steam, and whenever I click Play Game for Brink, the splash screen comes up, my mouse indicates something is loading, and Steam indicates that I’m playing Brink. Three seconds later, everything stops. The game doesn’t load, my mouse returns to normal, there’s no process/application running, and Steam returns to online rather than in-game. No error message pops up or anything.

Before you start, no, I’m not using ATI. My desktop is an intel i7 975 3.3ghz, running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. 6 gigs of RAM. Nvidia GeForce GTX 470 with fully updated drivers.

I have tried:
re-installing Brink
verifying game integrity
defragmenting cache
disabling opening movie
running in compatability mode
running as administrator
deleting certain files, then updating Brink
playing in German
restarting my computer
restarting Steam
turning off triple buffering
turning on triple buffering
running at minimum settings
running at maximum settings
community-made programs

Help me, Splash Damage. You’re my only hope.

Can you post a dxdiag anyway for bug tracing? best in code tags

I have tried all of Crispy’s solutions, none work.

Soooooo…any word on a fix? This seems like a pretty common problem…

(Darkorse) #5

Fixed (so far)! Downloading the free DLC again seems to do it.

I have kind of the same problem. When i go to steam and go play the game then there just comes a little picture up and then nothing happens in about a minute and then a pop-up window come up and says: The current video / driver combination does not support OpenGL 3,1 or newer ------ Initializing File System ------

Update your graphics driver to a version that supports OpenGL 3.1 (at the moment you have 2.1).

If you can’t find a newer driver then your laptop doesn’t support it and you’ll have to find something else to play on.
