Brink: What do you expect in the future?

(JayXombie) #1

I’ve played my share of games that didn’t necessarily have the biggest player base, and one of the biggest questions I hear is “What’s gunna happen in the future”? (I know this was a HUGE question when I played MAG, some game modes had about 7 players readied up in them total).

I was just wondering what do YOU guys think will happen in the future for Brink?

I personally hope they come out with a second Brink, the story has so much potential and how I look at it, Brink is like that first batch of cookies you made. The ingredients are there, but it just didn’t turn out how you planned.

Besides, I’ve seen worse games make big comebacks.

I expect to see Brink2. As far as SD are concerned, Brink is an amazing game. Perfect in every way that matters. Those ways are:

  1. It sold well.
    2)…GOTO 1

SD was only looking for commercial success with Brink and they got it. I think Brink2 is a forgone conclusion.

It’ll have a big, splashy ad campaign and a crappy PC port. Or a console exclusive. Maybe they will throw in vehicles or a 3rd “race” or micro-transactions.

Future gaming? Sorry, no more hardcore. In next few years we will play on our PDAs, ipads and smart phones. So i can expect brink 2 ipad port.

Speaking from the PC perspective, as long as SD keeps adding more maps with subsequent DLCs I’m sticking with Brink.

I admit that I did install ET:QW on my new computer last night (just for some comparison) and I found that ET:QW and Brink are very different games and unique in their own way. Frankly I wish more people used VOIP in Brink but otherwise I got no problems with it.

Still having fun,
JJ

I dont think there will be a sequel. I try to get my friends to play it but everybody says its a fail game. Who would buy a sequel to a fail game?

jj stick to etqw.

JJ - you were around for QW…you remember all the people clamoring for new maps in that game? Remember all the new maps we got? Me neither. In QW it didn’t matter because the gameplay kept a large player base around for a while.

QW is brilliant - if it had some of the improvements that have come about at the engine level with Brink it would have been even more successful.

Brink shows elements of brilliance which brings back memories of W:ET/ETQW but then make you wonder, with all the time you had how is this the end result? What changed at SD?

The next step is what are SD going to do to fix this? A lot of good will has surely been lost.

i tried a few games on QW recently. annoyed the hell out of me that everyone was bunny hopping all over the place. it just felt stupid. i do remember loving the demo but i met my wife just before the game was released and i never got around to buying it.

Brink: What do you expect in the future?

First, +1-2 DLC, 1 Game Addon/mappack, SDK release, in this order.
Multiplayer part of Doom 4, W:ET on idtech 5.
ZeniMax Media, acquire SD
Brink 2 or another game.

World Domination!

(neg0ne) #12

what comes next … hmmm…

  • first of all SD is gonna patch some things and somewhen release the DLC
  • they may even improve some things afterwards, cos they love their games ans are aware of the gap between potential and actual reality.
  • i guess there wont be much futher DLC cos the playerbase is too small and they got to feed their families
  • they gonna start another project ( if not already doing so )
  • hopefully release an SDK

IF the DLC is a hit and they bring the game into a good shape there may be a chance for Brink 2. Otherwise it would be smart to do something else cos too many people call this a bad game without ever playing it or are dissapointed of the buggy / bad release.

(Smoochy) #13

i think they could make a sequel, but name it something different. listen to the criticism (but not too much, we dont want lots of easy sniping like some other games offer) and build.

smart is good
customisation is good
maps are ok - some better than others, but name be a game that isnt like this
objectives are good
the buff system is great in principal but problematic with the F button issue

its a pretty solid base and adding better comms and action options would really open it up. i would also like more players and maybe vehicles. imagine a brink/battlefield crossover? big smart maps (like a whole city block) with some vehicles and 4x the players.

(NthLegion) #14

Maps. Lots of them.

Playing the same 8 maps over and over is starting to wear a little thin.

(wolfnemesis75) #15

Yeah. Mo Maps please. 20 Maps FTW!

(BiigDaddyDellta) #16

Yeah that’s pretty much what I want, maps maps and more maps. there’s a lot of Ark to show off.

I would like SD, to follow your analogy, to maybe make these cookies taste a little better before serving them because if they don’t people may not want to eat the next batch.
