I will tune in. Looks cool.

(its al bout security) #3

will these never end up in console shape i wouldnt mind winning 15000 ಠ_ಠ

(wolfnemesis75) #4

Winning in Halo gets you 50,000 in MLG. Or more. But yeah, it’d be cool if there were some Comps for us non-pc guys in Brink.

Watching the HALO stream @ mlg columbus was great comedy. So much yelling and body shots regging as headshots. It’s kinda tragic that HALO/Blops were featured over something like QuakeLive but I know it all depends on sponsors so

(wolfnemesis75) #6

I watched it Live and it was fun and exciting. Popularity is always the selling point for these things. Although, Star Craft was part of this tournament, and I’d say it is on its own level because its a completely different kind of game, like Quake and Brink. I thought the Halo stream was cool; I guess its all in the eye of the beholder. I think Brink has a lot of potential if the ESL rules were opened up and more reflective of Brink. But I will watch anyway.

So you get paid money for just playing and winning at a game? I think I’ve been living under a rock for a while…

(aignetti) #8

hopefully there is a patch to see 1. person as spectator … or it will be realy boring

(GreasedScotsman) #9

An elite few get to do it as their full time jobs, actually.

(zenstar) #10

And some get mice named after them (the computer kind not the squishy kind). Not to mention other sponsorship.

(wolfnemesis75) #11

Once, I think you win a tournament or place in the top 5 you are considered A Pro. And will be called as such going forward whatever you play in. Thus, you become somebody who can get sponsorship. Pro equals getting paid to play. Similar to a skateboard Pro. Once you got endorsements, you start to make money, correct?

(zenstar) #12

You don’t need to win to be called a pro. pro = proffessional. proffessional = someone paid to do [whatever it is]. You don’t need to win to get paid just look at [insert sports joke here].
If you can organise endorsements then you don’t need to win to be paid, but generally you only get picked up after making a name for yourself.

It seems easier to have a job after reading how serious the top esports guys are.

(sh4d3Z) #13

Yes, they make money primarily through tournaments and sponsorships/endorsements.

It is not a glorious profession, by any means. Go watch the amazingly candid documentary called FRAG to see what being a “pro” gamer really amounts to for many gamers. Such a great movie.

I suppose nothing is ultimately as glamorous as it seems. I will have to check out that movie at some point.

Elite is hmm one way to put it.
It’s entertaining as hell for sure,
so much better than American Football comedy.

Disappointed to see no 1st person spec yet.
Oh well, at least there’s BrinkTV.

Surprised to see a tournament for Brink. How many teams did you manage to get?

(BMXer) #19

Uhh… this is for the ESL European Championship. There were well over 200 teams signed up at the start! Its currently at the group stage. 8 groups of 4 teams each I think.

(tokamak) #20

Yeah I find it highly amusing as well.
