Brink to be Shown at PAX 09 Next Week

Got your panties in a bunch much, shirosae? A two line post results in a page long rebuttal. Impressive that you could draw so many conclusions about my off handed comment. I think you’ve been arguing with tokamak for too long to actually have a normal forum conversation anymore.

mortis: That’s not quite true. Healthy, young adults are even more at risk than older people with existing health conditions (source). There’s something known as a Cytokine storm, which (if it happens) can actually cause a healthy immune system to overreact and become a detriment to your system. Personally I’m a triathlete and a marathon runner and I haven’t been able to get out of bed for 3 days now. I don’t recall the last time I was this sick. Definitely worse than the regular seasonal flu.

I guess it will affect different people in different ways. I certainly wouldn’t wish this on anyone.

I’m curious, did you get swabbed and actually tested positive, mortis?

Let’s list the conclusions I drew, then.

  1. You didn’t understand what the point of my post was.
  2. You didn’t read the article I linked before criticising it for what it didn’t say.

Two is not really impressive.

But hey; it’s only the start of something which has a reasonable chance of becoming a global pandemic, where the major drug that might be taken by millions this winter have some as-yet insufficiently researched side-effects including suicidal behaviour in adolescents. Let’s not suggest that anyone actually be aware of that or anything; it’s hardly worthy of SERIOUS BUSINESS.

Normally I’m a bit over-sensitive to the I-didn’t-read-your-post-lol-here’s-what-I-think thing. But it probably has been aggravated a bit by that, yes.

@acidrain … my health provider only runs cultures when you’re on your deathbed. I had the flu, followed a minor bout of strep throat, and they said its ‘most likely’ swine flu as it fit the profile, but since I was already getting better on my own, I didn’t need medical attention, blah blah. It was no worse than any other flu I’ve ever had, except my throat still has some lingering soreness even now (about ten days ago I got sick). Another funny thing was that my sense of taste was totally screwed up for about a week. All better now.

It was more like a naggy, bad cold for me. I gave it the one-two punch of Nyquil and plenty of bed rest. That seemed to do the trick.

Aww it sometimes takes some time to decompress.

I dodged the bullet! No flu and am having a great holiday

On the subject of medical suffering at PAX, Paul did the first day’s demos in pretty excruciating pain, as he’d thrown his back out on the flight over. Only had some ibuprofen to see him through. I believe by the 3rd day it had receded to a dull ache though.

The man is a trooper!
