I’m printing that badge tonight :stuck_out_tongue:

See you on Sunday, Paul.
Heheh very cool badge, we’ll certainly bump ya in the queue

(acidrain) #22

Damn I forgot to print it. I’ll just yell “Tapir” at anybody that I recognize.

Anyways… In Seattle now. Can’t wait for the demo tomorrow!

Well PAX was great fun! The downside is that after touring from London to LA (E3) to London to DC to Dallas (QuakeCon) to London to Collogne (Gamescom) to London to Seattle (PAX) and I would hope to now finally relax, except when I arrive in London at 2.00pm tommorow, I’m then driving SIX hours to and old Quake clan-mates’ wedding in Cumbria!

omg I’m deaded

healthy up your lifestyle, you’re too young to be sedentary, I’ll be 60 next year, I resumed bicycle riding to at least keep a semblance of my former active self

(acidrain) #26

Yeah, you guys looked like you were about to pass out any second when I was talking to you. The demo was really awesome though. I think my sarcasm about the movement went straight over your head though, Locki. :stuck_out_tongue:

It was awesome finally meeting you guys: Locki and Fluffy. Hope the flight goes well.

(abrain) #27

SD, are you guys also going to the tokyo game show?

(shibbyuk) #28

Great though Brink looks, do you think they’ll really appreciate a gameplay demo on their special day? Stop pedaling your new game everywhere!

(deadlights) #29

Looked great guys, man that sounds so exhausting Locki.

(mortis) #30

Did Paul survive his journey? Get that man a pipe and a smoking jacket, he’s become a true jet-setter!

Is anybody who attended Penny Arcade over the weekend feeling a little under the weather? Turns out there was a Swine flu outbreak! And I have it! Woohoo…

Apparently Rahdo might do too

(kamikazee) #34

Try to make the best of your quarantine. :frowning:

Of course, do visit a doctor if you seem to have some complications…

(acidrain) #35

Yeah I went to the doctor yesterday and got myself some Tamiflu. Already feeling a heck of a lot better. Probably the most sick I’ve ever been. If you have the option to get vaccinated this fall, go and get it!

(shirosae) #36

People taking or thinking of taking Tamiflu: be aware that some people have trouble getting along with the stuff - most commonly nausea or vomiting, but also a bunch of other fairly rare but bizzare effects.

Note: This isn’t to say “Don’t take tamiflu”; that would be retarded if you have symptoms or have tested positive. Just try to have someone keep an eye on you, if you can. Stay safe, people.

(acidrain) #37

H1N1 can give you nausea and vomiting too! Plus a bunch of other horrible things. Fortunately it didn’t get that bad for me.

Also, people on the internet are not doctors. Especially when it’s a blog about “my daughter had swine flu and…”.

(shirosae) #38

Oh wait, I think I see what’s happened here.

I said that H1N1 is dangerous, and if you have good reason to suspect you have it you should take Tamiflu (or some other antiviral), but have someone keep an eye on you since Tamiflu occasionally does odd things.

Apparently this translates to ‘TAMIFLU IS CONSPIRCY FROM RAELIANS SWINE FLU HOAX GEOCENTRIC UNIVERSE LEVEL 20 CHIROPRACTOR/HOMEOPATH I CAST EMPOWERED PRAYER OF JESUS.’

People on the internet are not all Doctors. Therefore, there are no Doctors on the internet! Logic 101. Especially not on Scienceblogs, which pretty much exclusively host blogs from scientists and doctors.

‘…and because she was suffering from vomiting and nausea the Tamiflu nausea and vomiting side-effects wouldn’t have been a problem for her anyway, so don’t not take Tamiflu just because of the potential side effects. Tamiflu is occasionally dangerous, H1N1 is always dangerous.’

One of the benefits of actually reading what you’re quoting/paraphrasing is that you can work out what it says, and so know whether the counter-argument you’re trying to make is actually identical to the argument that you’re trying to counter.

One anecdote in one paragraph in one post is about his/her daughter. Therefore, the blog is about his/her daughter. Never mind the other posts not about his/her daughter, this one paragraph is definitely enough evidence to draw a conclusion. All those papers and studies linked to in the article? Made up hoaxes to support his/her ‘daughter’ conspiracy theory.

…Oh for pity’s sake, why do I bother?

(tokamak) #39

I’ve had the virus for two weeks. The sore throat is the worst. Don’t do like I did (visit gigs, wander trough towns until the first morning train comes by) and just get lots of sleep, then you’ll reduce the duration of it the most.

(mortis) #40

I had the swine flu, and it was quite anticlimactic. That’s why I call it the Hype Flu, because it isn’t even as dangerous as the regular seasonal flu to otherwise healthy folks…
