Read my mind. I was just about to write this. I was dismayed the other night when reading one of the new interviews. Something was said that alluded to the fact that DLC if offered would be charged (which makes sense based on Bethesda past history).
Free DLC is one of the reasons Valve is loved so much by its fanbase. Hopefully something like that could be done. And if DLC must be charged, please don’t rip us off like Gearbox with Borderlands where they charge $15 for DLC that takes < 2 hours to finish.
Im a bit thorn when it comes to DLC:s, i dont mind paying for them if i get something substantial and if the game at retail is a “full” game. What i DO dislike is the way that Borderlands did it with payed DLC:s that i felt was just cut from the game to make the releasedate or Modern Warfare 2 where they released a DLC that cost alot AND contained 5 maps where 2 maps came from MW1.
IMO you’ll never be satisfied, as the old adage goes, “You’re doing it wrong!”
Seeking enjoyment through content only is always going to lead to boredom. The joy of multiplayer is the interaction and competition with others. Without that new maps become “boring” after one or two plays. With it, a new map spells countless more hours of fun.
The most overplayed, predictable and tired map in gaming history can be fun if you’re playing it with the right people.
So that being said, I’d rather SD focus more effort on making the game fun, designing intuitive means for players to interact. Maybe offering some variation on a theme (read: different gametypes or mutations) to allow some defined segregation.
I do agree with you that playing with friends makes even the oldest map fun and i try to do that as much as possible. I still think theres a magic number where theres just too few maps to keep the game fun during a year.
See that’s where you err, BC2 maps are all a like. It’s all destructible cities and only the climate and location are different.
If you look at the past ET’s, you’ll find that every map is genuinely distinct, has an entirely different concept and will therefore provide much more variation without requiring more maps.
I guess if the maps are so detailed content/mission-wise that it takes a very long time to do everything it might work i dunno. I really HOPE so because SD seems to make all the right moves when creating this game and i would really like to play a game for a longer time.
