BRINK suggestions forum

Five players stopping on the spot to carry out their similar death animation in the midst of a mushroom cloud is neither move style nor realism.

In UT3 you could feign death and turn yourself into a rag doll at any time you liked (in mid air if you wanted), you could tumble down the stairs and stand up right on the spot where your body came to halt, other players could even interact with it by shooting at it.

So in that way, ragdolls + interaction is perfectly possible UT3 has already demonstrated it. If the whole thing is about lying on your back, that wouldn’t be a problem either as SD already solved this by letting players who lie prone make an amateur dramatic roll on their back when they die.

Haha, that’s good to hear, I was really pissed after the QW shotgun nerf, where you needed to hit people 3-4 times with shotgun from point blank to kill them. Shotgun must allow one shot kills (with some skill), or else it’s useless. Best shutgun mechanic I know so far is CS(:Source) (although it could be a very slightly bit stronger), capable of one shot killing at close range, without being too strong, but not completely useless at mid-range.
CoD4 shotgun is too deadly at close and too useless at mid range for my taste. Could as well knife most of the time.
I think you’re confusing “realism” with what you’ve seen in movies
In real life when shot you just collapse, you don’t go flying backwards, even with shotgun blast
in games with revive capability bodies need to be positioned so it’s possible, usually lying on your back waving at the angels
Beyond the scope of Brink no doubt but scripted ragdolls like in GTA IV would be nice. Something that reacts and takes into account momentum and some reaction to actually being hit would be great.

Also why can’t the revive process require a flip of the body if necessary? Or hell, if you land in an awkward position you just get tapped out (similar to how getting caught in an explosion works).

Don’t get me wrong, I love crazy rag doll stuff in SP games as well as blood, gore and flying body parts, but in MP I find it distracting and will turn it off if possible

Ragdoll is nice, maybe it can be implemented for critical strike like headshot, grenade blast etc that will do instant kill. So it is, 50-50 implementation.

BRINK combat is placed at more concentrate place, so i think it will be nice if BRINK can have tactical maneuver like wall hug, blind fire etc but all in first person (like killzone 2).

They’re most lilkely not putting ragdolls in the game. They screw up the hitbox for revives. This was discussed ad nauseam when ETQW came out. Do we really have to go through all this again?

(Shiv) #68

Was there not a piece about getting physics to be correctly displayed for everyone in the server, so that they are in the same place.
i thought this would enable rag dolls :stuck_out_tongue:
if there arent rag dolls at least have more than 1 death animation ;… like if they get shot in the head he could clutch it as he falls… ARG IVE BEEN SHOT LADZ.

(SockDog) #69

But while the game is in development I don’t think it hurts for people to shoot the sh*t about it. Seems a shame the best reason for not having ragdolls is a technical issue from a previously released game.

For one thing Brink has SMART. Who’s to say this couldn’t overcome the hitbox issues for reviving.

(Nail) #70

problem is that games that have ragdoll don’t have revives from medics/magical healers. The animations don’t look the same from all players perspective, they’re actually random animations

(Loffy) #71

Did anyone at Quakecon see if there was a gym anywhere?

(tokamak) #72

Not in UT3, players can interact with ragdolls there. I just don’t buy the revive hitbox problem, if Epic can do it, so can Splash Damage.

(Bezzy) #73

Revives and general interactions work differently now, so this isn’t an issue. You don’t have to do a “crosshair trace” to interact with interactables anymore, so it’s a lot less fiddlesome.

(acidrain) #74

So does that mean you are doing ragdolls? If not you just opened a can of worms.

(shibbyuk) #75

Either you don’t read stuff properly or I’m just a fanboi…

(NB:The latter is certainly becoming true!)

(murka) #76

Tbh ragdolls like in most games are unrealistic. Do you often see people with legs going through them or arms twisted so badly?
Animations actually look better than weird ragdolls, so unless you use something that simulates muscles in bodies, don’t use ragdolls.

(Bezzy) #77

I was responding more to the hitbox stuff you were talking about - that it’s a non issues the way we’re doing it now. Further than that, you’re allowed to speculate as much as you like :).

(Fluffy_gIMp) #78

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm speculating

That’s only in old games. New games handle it much better.

Well to speculate from there I guess people no longer need to be very close to player to interact with them. Maybe the SMART button works on players as well hm? Warm?

Killcam

Subject has been mentioned before. Not sure if in relation to Brink though. We know what it is, what it does. Killcam would be nice.

To take it a step further though…

Killercam!!!

Here you can select to automatically record each kill YOU make (perhaps allowing various lengths 8,16,24 secs). Then when you’re done playing you can watch them playback, flagging ones you want to keep for bragging rights, taunting etc. Hell if you could extract the kill info to the Killercam!!! demo file you might even be able to link the killed person with an actual user account.
