Brink: Server Log OutPut Example

(LoneWolf) #1

Greetings.

I’m not sure if this topic has already been covered; as I tried to search the forums for discussions on dedicated server log output and couldn’t return any results.

I am very interested in getting a “head start” on the release date by developing my own “log parsing” software that will not only parse the server logs being output from a typical Brink dedicated server, but will also send that data to a custom SQL database for integration with my fansite/website. This will allow my dedicated server clients to track their stats and bring a more competitive interest to the “Brink-ommunity” that I’m interested in building. Yes, I realize that there will likely be statistics-related web sites out there to help me track all of this; but they will not provide the customization I am looking for, unless I do it myself. I’ve already done this for my ETQW dedicated server.

Anyway, this question is directed more to the developers handling the dedicated server aspects of the Brink PC version: might you be able to provide me with a working example of the dedicated server log output from Brink so that I can start coding my project based on the example? This way, I can have that software utility ready to go before I purchase the game and set up my dedicated server.

Any help with this request is certainly appreciated - as I believe that game statistics are an important aspect of providing a good gaming experience online.

Again, thanks in advance.

LoneWolf

Apparently, this isn’t a forum for direct communication with the developers. Guess I’ll just figure it out after the release.

The developers are here but I’m not sure if they’d be able to give you an answer at this point in development as it seems Bethesda as the money bitch is calling a lot of the shots on what info is released. Don’t be disheartened, be persistent and I’m sure when and if they can they’ll give you the info.

(Herandar) #4

Giving them only three and a half hours to respond? How generous.

(Herandar) #5

I’d rather the developers work on the game than help you with your pet project. I suspect most people feel the same way.

(Nail) #6

pretty sure the parser you use for QW will suffice with minor alterations

(Cankor) #7

yeah, 90% of your work is probably already done. It’s alos possible that 100% is done by the developers and they’ll give you a direct feed of the info in XML format or something like that to make it really easy to integrate into your own database. I suspect they are doing something like that but there are lots of doubters

i connected game servers with my site, sql database.

also, this is connected with matches and tournaments:

and this all is connected with facebook, updating your status:)

Wow… I didn’t realize that providing an example of server log output (as indicated by the original post) would pull precious resources away from development time. Gee… that might take… what… 5 entire minutes to secure and send to an e-mail address that they already have from my profile? Wow, dude. It’s likely to push the release date out another 9 months, or so - I’d imagine.

Use your head, genius.

“Pet project”… how insanely laughable.

@ Nail -

You’re probably right. I was more interested in seeing if there are references to different weapon types and frag types, so that I can get all of that information set up in the SQL database.

Perhaps the log “language” is different too, which means that I’d have to change the code to look for “Brink-specific” key words versus ETQW’s game “language”.

The general parsing concept is rudimentary, but it’s quite a pain in the backside to alter the code for an entirely different log structure. There’ll be no issues doing so - I just thought it would be great to get a head start on this before the release so that my game server/community can be ready to go.

Well, you just have to wait a little more than one month now to get your hand on that kind of information, I think it won’t delay too much your project either.

But I don’t see being sarcastic a way of getting what you want.

@ Cankor –

I hope you’re right!

I had always wondered [for many years] why game developers don’t “join forces”, so to speak, and come up with a centralized manner by which to distribute server log activity for easy DB integration. This is a whole facet of gaming that goes way beyond the game play itself.

A dedicated server, in my opinion, should do more than just serve up the public platform by which gamers can play. It does the community one better by also providing statistics, news and a general atmosphere of personal interest. It’s just good marketing.

Where “modders” can take a game to whole new levels of play, admins who run their own dedicated servers can take their servers to whole new levels of community interaction.

@ Jep

It’s pretty obvious that this wasn’t directed at you personally… nor the developers of the game. Just follow the thread.

… and I completely disagree. Contempt breeds contempt - and I hold absolutely no courtesy for people who make snide comments and expect lollipops and flowers in return.

(Herandar) #15

You are right. I am still laughing.

Maybe they’ll let you into a private Beta too.

I know that’s my first post in your topic but…

This wasn’t directed to the devs ? funny, cause it sure looks like it was.

If you haven’t done it already, though, I’d contact directly one of the dev posting on the forum.
