Brink rules my desktop. Now coolest at work. What did the fanpack do for you?

(DonkeyDong) #1

Here is my desktop at work. I have one monitor on it’s side so I was very happy to see atleast some wallpapers that are on this gnarly angle.

(light_sh4v0r) #2

What is the advantage of having a screen on its side?

(Kl3ppy) #3

Its cool … :penguin: :penguin:

(DarkangelUK) #4

Completely depends on the progs being used on it, tbh I wish my 2nd monitor could spin that way to get some more vertical real estate.

(digibob) #5

Some of the folks here use vertical monitor setups, one even has both of his monitors in that position!

(Kinjal) #6

May be he use to much SMART?

(Apples) #7

If you code for instance, I have one monitor to code the stuff and another to display the charts and the prOn

Well I code. So I have my windows for dev on the left. Since some of my projects are web projects, I can have things like ‘FireBug’ open displaying a webpage, and then have the debug underneath. Plus web pages surprisingly fit 100% snug in a sideways setup. Just try it. Pages require less scrolling, etc etc. That and emails, IM (since I have a semi long list) etc.

Hey Splash… hire me!

I also do this at work

PS: Surprised no one noticed the “Plastic Axe of Motivation” Hanging above the left monitor.:oppressor:

Landscape (16:9, 16:10) has only become popular for monitors since computer multimedia has become popular (videos, games etc). Remember monitors used to be square. I always get annoyed when studying uni stuff because I receive all my documentation (doing it by correspondance) in PDF format, and it ends up having to be half its potential size due to the screen layout.

The only benefit I enjoy in having it in landscape is being able to tile 2 windows side by side and still be able to see both windows at near their full potential. (Have a look at the Splash Damage website when it’s in fullscreen on a 1080p desktop - more than enough room to tile that window with something else.

I’m so in freakin love with you right now, you couldnt image…

Still looking for a 22" squared monitor less than 600€…

(Nail) #15

Yeah they’re near impossible to find. It’s amazing though - I took my old 17in 4:3 monitor into work to use and it actually looks HUGE because I’m so used to seeing such short monitors. It probably has as much if not more “useable” realestate on it as my 24in screen in general day to day applications.

(Nail) #17

I’m still using my twin 19" CRTs, but they’re starting to get tired, looks like a couple 24s to replace them, gonna miss that 1600 x 1200 resolution though

(brbrbr) #18

for work, additional monitor[or better - two], is awesome contribution to you producty.
whatever you do - programming, engineering, 3d/2d content producing/processing, mangement, security, research.
everywhere, one-two extra monitors, even inexpensive ones, will help alot.
sadly they still lack both resolution and colors.
and speed was bad joke when we talk about entertainment applications[where is ****ing laser displays ?]

4:3 LCD screens was capped at 21’’.
Samsung and LG had only two models each.
they promise to update this line, but seems forgot to do it, long ago :[

26’’ and above LCD’s can have decent resolutions, like 2500x1500.
its seems ridiculous see at [designed for cheap TV]TV LCD matrix in computer monitors 22’’ 24’’…
“HD” they say ? 1920x1080 ? pfff
when every pixel was sized as finger as seen from 4m away ? no, thanks. i pass.
