Brink Q&A

(Jamieson) #441

16, 8 on each team. Sorry about the QW misquote. Don’t remember where that’s from, but sometimes I get talking so fast that I make verbal typos like that

Will ranked servers (if you are using them) be limited to 16slots only or will admins be able to extend them to 24 slots like QW?

Either way do you think 24 people on a server or 12v12 would work well with the system you are using?

(Rahdo) #442

There’s no doubt that all our levels are being designs very specifically for 8 on 8… increasing numbers beyond that would make the levels overcrowded. As for whether or not we’ll do it, I think that was mentioned earlier in this thread that it’s something I’d like to provide player with the option to do, but there’s outstanding tech issues that would have to be resolved with it in order to work. So for now, hard to say…

Thanks for the feedback it’s always good to see development staff responding to the community.

I was under the impression that experience (/achievement) unlocked items are purely aesthetic and permanent. Is this correct or do some unlocked items confer a gameplay advantage (weapons, armor, ammunition, etcetera)?

I assume this was covered somewhere that I read awhile ago but I didn’t see the answer looking through some of these threads.

Will body type be allowed to be selected on-the-fly, as it were, while you are playing (e.g. at spawn points/base stations or similar)?..

i didn’t find the answer to this question

(tokamak) #446

There is no answer to this question yet. It has been heavily debated in several threads.

(DoubleDigit) #447

Can I has question too?

  • If I understand correctly, people will create characters and will not be able to switch classes during games. Can you switch the class for the created character or have to create another? Maybe today I want to play medic, later a soldier and so on. This way I have to logout login and so on, and I presume you can’t have the same name for all characters which will lead to some confusion among clan members and friends.
  • About the weapon spread / ironsight issue. How big is the weapon spread when not using the ironsight? If it’s anything like Borderlands, MW2 I think I’ll pass on this game. Draws the gameplay to a slower pace that I don’t like. QW had a nice balance to it.

(tokamak) #448

You will be able to change class, the jury is still out on body type (I hope it’s fixed to your character from the start)

I like Quake Wars spread as well, but it has already noted somewhere that the spread behaviour is dependant on the gun you’re using (like light weapons being stable on the move and heavy weapons precise when standing still for example).

It’s a good question though, but I imagine it would be part of the final balancing phases.

(Ragoo) #449

Have you guys watched the world cyber games? Because I it is my dream that BRINK will be there next time

(Rahdo) #450

Well, we haven’t talked much yet about exactly how things unlock (still working it out internally  ), but what has been said is that clothing unlocks are not gameplay affecting.

Yup, if you want a tight spread for hip fire, there’ll be plenty of weapons that should satisfy, I think

You likely won’t be able to change body type during a match on your character, but you may be able to change characters altogether (so you might have a big fat guy you bring out for special occasions, for instance). However, jury’s still out on that, both from a design and tech point of view…

Q: How many headshots are needed to kill a full health player?

Is the health system similar to QW? I don’t really like insta kills. Ppl should have a little more skill then luck to kill someone.

(Rahdo) #453

it depends on a lot of factors (your body type, the power of the gun, buffs), but suffice to say that you aren’t going to be insta killed in this game unless you make yourself a little skinny guy

(radiator) #454

are you talking about, for example, being insta killed with a grenade exploding in his face or is your intention that he’ll die with 3 ou 2 shots from a standard smg, or something?

like, the heavy guy could pull out is bfg and fire in the right moment to instantly kill the light guy, but he had to take his time aiming.
or will even the medium guy be able to kill him with very few shots?

(tokamak) #455

I think it’s going to be a bit less extreme than putting a heavy against a scout.

I would like to know that too.

And are there special moves to unlock/buy for
the 3 bodytypes? One unique move per bodytype?
Like a special dodge move for the skinny guy =D

(Rahdo) #457

Sorry, we don’t have final numbers yet, there’s still SO much balancing to do :). Skinny guy does go down fast though (at least, the way he’s set up right now… we’re about to revamp the life meter stuff though, so that could change). It all depends on which weapon your enemy is using, but yeah, it’s not impossible that one well placed headshot to a skinny might put him down, when you’re talking about the most powerful guns in the game. But the skinny is fast and hard to hit and a smaller target, so keep moving and you’ll be fine…

No special moves based on body types, sorry :frowning: Definitely potential for a sequel though if we sell well enough!)

(tokamak) #458

To be honest, it’s the entire body type thing that tickles my curiosity the most. I honestly can’t wait to find how far you guys set the three apart from each other.

(RoryGreen) #459

They should leave it about 2 years between them. Gives people time to become veterans at the game and also gets people excited about when new one is coming out. (You were talking about sequels weren’t you?)
I think about 2 years is the best time gap, but honestly, it depends on how long the game takes to make. I’m no expert but I assume that a sequel should take less time because all the basis to the game is already there, you just need to build on top of that. Correct me if I’m wrong.

(tokamak) #460

No I’m not, I were talking about the difference between the body types.

And let’s wait until the game merits a sequel first
