BRINK: Pre-Order bonuses as a DLC pack for aditional price

(Kurushi) #21
Like I said earlier if they charged for it, the incentive to pick up the bonus at preorder is to get it for free. Remember preordering doesn’t cost you anything extra. It just adds to the final cost to you.

So people won’t just simply say, I’ll wait til later and pick it up… because they will have to PAY for it.
We’ve gone over this in the other threads. Special Editions are not free.

People paid extra to support SD in return for some collectors items.

Imagine a limited press music vinyl. Once it’s sold out it can’t be re-produced. Now imagine a digital copy of something. Should it be made available to everyone because it can be infinitely re-produced? IMO, no, It’s the principle.

I would only be okay with SD releasing the pre-order content if they make players that didn’t buy it at the right time/from the right vendors pay what I had to pay at release for the game + 1 pre-order pack. There’s no reason why they should not only give out pre-order ONLY bonuses to people complaining after having bought the game too late, but for $5-10 too, when I had to pay $60 for the game + 1 pack.

Since the game is $35 or so new these days, unless they charge $25 per pack to make it equal to what I had to pay at release for just the game and spec ops pack, I’m going to feel robbed of the only bonus I got for buying this game and putting up with it since the launch, even though on launch day the lag issues made it nearly unplayable for everyone like myself that had blind faith that this game would be a huge success worth the $60 price tag.

Pre-ordered on PC, got codes. Bought Special Edition on PS3 after massive price drop, got codes.

Not used a single one.

Some people wouldn’t have preordered if there wasn’t a bonus. Some people only preorder for the bonuses.

The bonuses were not free everywhere. GAME.co.uk had 2 preorders. 1 without any codes for the standard price and a “special edition” with 2 codes that cost an extra £5 - £10 (i don’t remember exactly, but it was more expensive). That’s 1 example. I’m sure they weren’t the only ones (not to mention people selling their codes on ebay and the like).

So the arguments about “the bonus is just a bonus” is not 100% true to the facts. Neither is the “you got them free” argument (not even counting full game price vs cheaper current price).

These arguments should not be used to try state why the bonus DLC should become available as they are flawed arguments.

That is not to say that they shouldn’t become available (or that they should). I do, however, like the argument put forth that likens the bonuses to limited edition items bundled with the game. If you look at it like that then it’s a collectable thing that is simply devalued by making it unlimited.

I do however also like the idea of the bonuses being sold (and preorder people getting all the bonuses free) and that money going to fund more free DLC for everyone. The problems here though are as follows: Is there a suitable way of tracking (on all three platforms) who preordered? GAME were selling “special editions” with codes long after the game was released (giving people ample time to pick up spec ops and doom packs). The other issue is this: will the sale of the bonuses actually make enough money to fund anything worthwhile?

Also: will the loss of goodwill (from the people who want to keep the bonuses limited) be counteracted by the gain in goodwill (from the people who want to purchase said DLC now)?

I haven’t heard a really good argument that convinces me that it should be released. If it would certainly fund some extra DLC then I say go for it. If not then I say it’s a collectable and if you didn’t get it you missed your chance. I only got 1 of the 4 but would have liked all 4 for completeness.
Hopefully they’ll release more collectable DLC. Then everyone can feel special. Personally I’d like that.

Specially awarded stuff that not everyone gets makes it feel more valuable. Or maybe that’s just me?

people that have pre-ordered get all Pre order for free. people that buy special edition when it was released get £3 back. people that want to buy pre order have to pay the price diference inbetween £39 and the price they bought it for. this isa good idea. whover said it, was clever.

If you really want to buy pre-order bonuses, go to ebay. There are quite a few codes on there for them, just type in Brink DLC.

(Hippnotic) #27

Solution?

Sell the Weapons/Attachments and NOT the Clothing! I myself got The Psycho pack from Amazon.com and the MAIN reason I got the pack was “The Grin” Mask. I didn’t care much for the Revolver or Tattoo or what-have-you.

So, like the Spec-Ops kit don’t sell “The Sloan” mask, just the Hockler MP/Greeneye Scope.

Psycho, just sell the Caesar Revolver/Soda Can Supressor…

THAT WAY all those PO’ whiney babies can still LOOK unique to everyone else, and STILL be different.

EDIT: @lobster - What eBay are you going to? The one on Mars? Cause when I go to ebay I can only find 2 Spec Ops codes, for PS3 only… just those 2.

They should do that. All you people who say they pre-order for a reason shut up. If they release them then people who don’t have them can actually pay for them

i really dislike how huge the in-game exclusive content, whether it be pre-order or special editions, have become. i can understand more money for actual physical goodies being included with the games, but i personally never understood the huge craze over “special” in-game items, and now, it’s the standard.

what’s even crazier is i saw some headphone/headset deals that included exclusive items for gears of war 3. also, the different items for the different places you preorder… ugh. it feels like it’s spiraling out of control in my eyes, but the majority of people seem to love it and will happily throw out money to support this "trend (not so much a trend now, but the norm).

i’m feel like i’m in the minority feeling this way though.

Last time I looked, someone in Italy had two pc codes for the spec ops pack for sale on eBay. No sign of a Fallout pc code anywhere.

If I picked up a second hand Fallout pc pack from the local shop, how do you go about getting the special code reactivated for use?

Second hand for PC? Not possible. Steam allows 1 time activation. Once it is on your account it is yours for life.
The only way someone could sell Brink “2nd hand” is if they bought it for the pre-order code, didn’t activate the game and then decided to sell it. In that case I’d expect that they took the fallout code for themselves.

I very much doubt you’ll be able to “reactivate” (read: reissue) a used DLC code. =/ sorry.
