Honestly as far as im concerned, i’d be happy to just be able to make new clothing and accessories. This would be huge for the Artside of game modding for now.
Since the days of 1500poly characters and single diffuse maps with possible effect skins, game editing has been very limited. Which is why Brink has such huge access just in fun add ons that dont effect gameplay.
Also, you dont have to animate new clothes, hair, ect you just need to rig it to the model.
I do understand what you are saying Achtung, I was the kind of guy that had 10+ models installed in my Quake II. Obviously you have to take care of no making an ant model (neither small nor big). But you know, I would appreciate a custom tatoo or an Argentinean bandana.
Exactly. Alot of people love to have great simple stuff to make their character their own.
Anything that could be added, not just clothes, Tats, Hair, Clothes, or Weapons. Not to mention Map Editing. All of this adds content while keeping the integrity of the game.
Devs can only afford to make so much, but the modding community is always looking for a project to do that they can add to a game without making a complete mod.
Full characters would not really work in Brink as you stated, it could change gameplay having a model that is too big or small. Quake3 and UT2 both had alot of community characters made that were out of the hit box detection.
But if you looked at the Polycount link in the oringinal post you will see that alot of the FREE add on content that has been added to Team Fortress 2 is community made. FREE and not affecting gameplay. But adding alot of fun for those who are into it.
And while not everyone is all about customization, there are plenty who are.
Then as i stated before. If SD would have a program to accept and officially add these ingame via patches, alot of talented people would go crazy mad editing Brink content.
I know people stated that they would rather have new gameplay ect. but that is not simple editing, and with all the work that goes into a full MOD, editors want a life for their work. Only huge mods are ever really successful like Counter Strike, Team Fortress, ect and as you can see these are MOD’s that become their own games.
Take a look at all the unfinished MODs and you’ll get what im saying.
But make it official content, and then you may find yourself getting that cowboy hat, celtic tats or handlebar mustache that you just know will make your avatar complete.
