Brink Online Splitscreen

(XDarkPhoenixX) #1

I have a question/Idea for the 360 version (Ps3 too). I know split-screen multiplayer online for 2 players (One guest account) is hard to do. But couldn’t you just have different ‘settings’ so to speak for online split-screen?

Everyone says split-screen would come at a cost, i.e shaving away parts of the game making it less enjoyable. But what if the single player offline and the non split-screen online multiplayer were separate from the 2-player split-screen online multiplayer? (In terms of graphics/settings not game play)

So single player would still be the way it is intended.
Playing by yourself in online multiplayer (one to a console) would still be the way it is intended. So nothing changes for those 2 modes.

But then have the split-screen separate. I mean the PC version (should) already have the capability to choose game settings right? I.e Models, Textures, draw distance, Shadows, water etc… Low, medium, high, very high etc… So incorporate that for the 2P split-screen online multiplayer for the 360. I don’t mean give players the option to fiddle with settings.

Just have 2P Split-screen online multi ‘settings’ set lower than 1p multi, to allow for the split-screen. Yeah the graphics wouldn’t be as good, but single player and other people playing online (one to a console) would remain unaffected.

So that way it would give people the ‘option’ to choose to have a guest play at the expense of lower settings. But the people who don’t choose to have a guest play can remain unaffected.

Just an Idea.

Maybe for Brink 2. The devs have already said it won’t be in.

I have no idea what you are talking about?

Have a split screen so one can play offline and one can play online? wth?

Whaaaattt??? Now I’m confused. I just want Online 2p split-screen (guest account).
(think Halo 3/reach and COD:BO)

Nowhere have I said I want one person offline while the other plays online???

Where it says things like having the online split screen separate. I mean separate graphic settings.

So people who want 2p online split screen have to get lesser graphics (otherwise it would probably not work)
But People who want non-split screen online multiplayer get normal graphics
And People who want single player get normal graphics

Having the settings change depending on what mode you choose was just an Idea. Because so many places I have read people say things like ‘They would probably have cut/leave something out making it less enjoyable’

When you enable split-screen, the graphic quality gets dumbed down in order to maintain the same smoothnes in gameplay?

Is that what you meanth?

As an answer tho, it won’t happen.
The game is already finished, they are just tweaking it gameplay wise.
You’re a bit late…

Yea just for the split screen mode.

I know it’s mostly done. But it did get delayed till April. The expected release date used to be this year.

Still doesn’t stop me from wanting it in the game lol

I’d love for them to add it at a later stage in form of a DLC, because unlike COD:BO, brink’s gameplay would actually improve a lot, in that players can revive one another

(SockDog) #8

Don’t think it was just the graphical quality, network data needed to be handled differently too IIRC

(XDarkPhoenixX) #9

That would be cool
… But? You do know that you can be revived in COD:BO. It is the Second chances upgraded ability and once you have it any one can revive you. (They don’t need SC to revive you)

True but not impossible some games do it. The other players/enemies positions and what they are doing would be the same, just accessed more. And you would be sending out only one extra set of player information (1p and 2p). The strain would be on the slower internet connections more than the game. Halo Reach has 4 player online split-screen without affecting the graphics and game-play (COD:BO does it as well, 2p tho) so it’s not hard to imagine brink being able to do 2p online split-screen if the graphics are reduced freeing up graphic and CPU memory/power to handle the extra person.
(Just like on PC where lower graphics allows slower CPU’s and crappier graphics cards to play)

Brink isn’t one of those games. A big misconception a lot of players have with splitscreen, is “if so and so can do, why can’t this/all all games?”

Not all games share the same code or work with the same engine. Take Brink for instance, displaying gigabytes worth of texture onscreen at once - now double it for splitscreen. A descent PC could handle it wonderfully, a console (specifically the 360) maybe not so much.

Doubt itll happen, but support anyway.
