Brink needs TDM and CTF .. ASAP!

I know this is a team based game, but there is no reason this game wouldnt be perfect for these modes. My server would continue to run all modes, but adding these would spice things up a bit more. TDM just for some all out fragging, CTF for a lot of fun.

(Murderous Pie) #2

no, we don’t.

(Mr. Magikarp) #3

I’m sure someone will make a CTF mod eventually. They’ll probably make a TDM mod too.

(thedukey) #4

that would be great, this game is perfect for both modes, not sure why it didnt come stock with these :frowning:

How would TDM make any sense, let alone work? You get close to no XP while killing people, and you shouldn’t. Just play the game like it’s meant to be played, like a team effort. I can see CTF working, but it wouldn’t make much sense.

(Mr. Magikarp) #6

Splash Damage purposefully did not include a TDM mode is because it was the mindless killing-centric gobbledygook that they were trying to avoid by putting so much emphasis on team work. As for CTF, I can only guess that CTF is not really their style.

(thedukey) #7

ok? im sorry what does XP matter in this game anyways, you hit max level fairly fast, i just want to enjoy the game. sometimes just having a mode to kill people is fun? not like it hasnt been a successful way of making games before huh?

how would it work? simple. you get a kill, you get points… not that hard? each kill could be worth w/e, 20 points.

CTF doesnt make sense? you already have the objective mode where you have to carry the package, insert some TDM rules where kills = points, and carrier scores = bonuses for the whole team.

even king of the hill would be a lot of fun in this game, with climbing involved, maps could get pretty creative and interesting.

im not trying to replace the objective modes that their are now, just add more. nothing wrong with having variety?

(Al_Kamone) #8

i can see how interesting ctf would be too. Add secondary objectives, like barriers to block the enemy from reaching your flag and you’ll have an interesting gamemode!

(indirect) #9

I wouldn’t mind CTF, would probably play it a ton, but this game will not cater to TDM gameplay.

(DeadEye) #10

I think there needs to be some sort of game like TDM or CTF, but not necessarily exactly the same. If you look at Shadowrun, it had two gametypes, Attrition and Extraction. Attrition was slayer mixed with some Oddball, and Extraction was Neutral flag mixed with slayer. Both gametypes could be won either with slaying the other team, or objectively. I think SD should look into something like this.

(zerorawr) #11

Yes to CTF, but a maybe to Tedium.

(DazTroyer) #12

Close the door on the way out will you

(thedukey) #13

I can understand where teamplay is encouraged in this game, but TDM requires teamplay just as much, especially in this game. i think it could work, even more with a creative objective thrown in the mix like holding a certain point for so long, etc.

While I agree that additional game modes would not hurt the players of Brink I also think that it is not needed. That being said you could convert the traditional TDM or CtF rules to Brink quite easily and hopefully a mod will manage it.

For TDM you simply use a respawn pool and the first team to run out loses, no need to track kills at all. You could even incorporate Command Post bonuses to keep the conflict varied. For CtF you simply interact with the item instantly as opposed to having to wait for a few seconds. Having to hide would be insanely strategic while you try to return your own flag since an enemy Operative could use Comms Hack to reveal your location. Even Territories variations could be added with ease where the bonuses are related to how many CPs you control, not which ones.

The reason these ideas are not needed is because SD has their hands full trying to fix their game. Let them work on that and let the community handle the mods. Once SD fixes Brink on all platforms then we can worry about future DLC expanding the ways to play Brink.

(thedukey) #15

is somebody making an “i quit” post, or are you just being a horrible troll?

(indirect) #16

I never said TDM doesn’t require team work. I just don’t think the mechanics of brink fit a TDM style game personally.

I would love gametypes like DOM, S&D, and CTF just as much as the next guy. I’m happy for now, though I’d like to see them added when the SDK is released as well.

(kamikazee) #17

CTF isn’t really necessary - just make a “capture” objective for both teams!
TDM could have been an interesting addition, if only to let most of the people filter those servers out of the server list.

In W:ET people started to make regular servers with a message of the day stating “no objective zone - just shoot to kill”. Turns out the admins on those servers don’t like it when you neglected to read that message and start capturing command posts. You get a lot of consternation first, then a swift kick.

A flag is just another objective. Whether you are snagging some documents and running them back to your base, or a flag and doing the same, you are completing a single objective. If both teams do it, then you have a dual objective map. But if a map is designed to have a defensive bias (objective/campaign mode) or an offensive bias (for stopwatch), then it is inherently unbalanced for CTF. Why not just make a custom balanced CTF map (with no team bias) if that mode appeals to you? No need for a mod, AFAIK. Baserace is a classic example of a CTF style map in Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. My personal belief is that any maps that are balanced to progressive team play over time are not likely to make great CTF maps.

Silly questions get silly answers chap! The game doesn’t need to be like CoD or Halo, if thats what you wanted then maybe you should have researched the game first numpty…
