Brink kills my Internet Connection by joining a server

(Ryudar) #1

As the title says, sometimes when I try to connect to a server, Brink goes to the loading screen and when I press a button to skip the Story Stuff, Brink won’t start the game. Instead, the leader keeps talking and I’ll get kicked back to the server list, but my Internet connection is dead.

A single Router restart helps in most cases. But right now as I type this, I lost my whole connection the 5th time in a row. Restarting the computer doesn’t help.
I’ve got realtek onboard network. The provider is the german “Telekom”.

I’m sure Brink will work again later a sit always does after that issue, but still I hope that somebody has figured out a help for this.

maybe you should check your Steam settings (downloads and cloud - tab), and pick the right internet-connection speed.

you might want to check for firmware updates for your router

I’ve been getting this randomly also l0l… usually when I open the Brink server browser the rest of my family’s web browsers go dead immediately. Kind of odd…

my new router did this in cod4 and other games with server lists, when i tried to refresh the list with lots of servers.

did some research and found out its actually a security feature of the router. it blocks the internet connection completely when theres a specific amount of broken tcp packets in a specific period of time. its to prevent ddos attacks.

i had to disable this feature completely to solve the problem.

if you cant configure your router try adding this to your autoexec.cfg:

seta net_serverListMaxResults “500”

with this value your server browser only refreshes till it finds 500 servers. you can also manipulate the value to something that you prefer if it takes too long to refresh 500 servers.
