Brink is an Archipelago? (citing source)

The Ark is an archipelago? This is the video:

Ed Stern says it in the first thirty seconds. I posted on this before and someone said the Ark was one island. Maybe the interview is outdated? (because this was back when the release was in Spring 2010)

With regard to the first container city video:

Container City and the Ark seem like they may be two different islands due to color contrast, yet the absence of any other graphical changes seems to suggest there are only two islands (if not one). When Stern says “series,” however he seems to imply the presence of more than two islands making up the Ark.

Still the concept has always been interesting. I’d also love underwater levels reminiscent of Bioshock, but that’s just me.

Just thought I’d bring this up because Brink fans know very little about what the maps are going to look like at this point (it’s not just containers and an airport).

The two-color scheme may just be a visual reinforcement of the Security vs Resistance conflict.

This is the thread where I brought it up (if you are interested):

Thoughts?

As far as I´ve understood it´s a cluster of floating islands and container city just happens to be one of them. There are already real plans for cities like these, that can ´grow´ on the water as you keep adding more components. You can´t just build one big sheet of city on an ocean.

Development wise it’s also pretty clever as you can add new components with add-ons. An industrial district, an agricultural district, a geo-engineering etc… the real world has tons of innovations in the pipeline you can steal from.

Yup, Ark is definitely a collection of hundreds of small and big islands, all chained together. You can see it for the first time now on http://brinkthegame.com (which just got a massive update yesterday)

As a slight bit of in-game trivia, people on the Ark call the individual islands “pelgos”

Ark-ipelago. I see what you did there.

Will a booklet come out with all the in-game lore (for lack of a better word), because I’m a geek when it comes to that kind of stuff.

That’s a lot of space there . Are we going to see all of it in use or is it still too early to say .

looking at the size of those maps and the grey clusters I think there’s space for about 16-20 maps there, then again, some space might be left open for add-ons. And not all maps are of course of equal size, there might be a few quick short ones between them as well.

That long peer is especially intriguing.

Don’t forget the possibility of underwater areas as well, i think some claustrophobic environments beneath the surface would be a nice change.
