BRINK Ideas

(jordanman13) #1

hey all, this thread is for posting ideas, in the hope that if the Devs DO check the forums all of our ideas will be in a centralized place, and we might be able to get some intelligent discussion out of this, and figure out what would work and what wouldnt. I’ll kick us off with a couple of ideas that i’ve thought through, and i think they’d be good for the game:

1.) Tagging The Enemy (Think Bad Company 2) - you press a button, and the person your aiming at lights up red on your team’s map and screen, easy to implement, helps encourage teamplay.

2.) Constant Warfare (think MAG) - basically, the Resistance and Security are in a constant war. The background for Multiplayer would be a map of the Ark, and each faction would have “controlled areas”. These areas wouldn’t affect matches or maps, but it would give the community a reason for choosing their factions and possibly sticking with them longer. Maybe a good idea, not sure yet.
-> A better description of this is: The background screen for the MP is a map of the ark. Resistance is red, Security = blue. Lets say Security is winning, most of the map would be blue. Lets say resistance is winning, most of the map would be red. The way it would be counted would be: Every Tean games or so, whichever faction wins those games, they moce up maybe a centimeter (depending on how big the map is) or it could be like eveyr 100 matches, whichever team wins controls a whole section of territory. Or maybe even it could be like MAG with those little bars that increas every 5 victories for each faction, and when they get to the top the faction takes a whole area of the Ark.

3.) Maybe some sort of chain of command, with preset orders that can be made on the fly to other members without need for voicing everything. For instance, to hit up on the digital pad may bark orders to proceed to target, or something along those lines.

4.) an hours counter. Say your playing with someone, and you go to the menu or scoreboard, and you click on their name. Maybe their player card comes up with their level, their main character that they’ve played the most as, and possibly the amount of hours that they have played.

I’ll add more as we go along.

NOTE: Not all these are mine, i used my topic from the BRINK Forums on Bethesda, with responses from other members

welcome !!

Not sure it’s returning in Brink but point 1 (& 4) existed in quake wars. It’s my understanding that they’re automating more character voice chat but hopefully that remains a communication option.

Hey mate welcome…

  1. Good idea, but not sure if it fits the flow of the game
  2. That is already implimented. The game has auto VSAYs depending on what objective you have selected on the objective wheel.
  3. Steam has this functionality built in. You can SHIFT-TAB to bring up the current players, which then lets you see their profile page which displays all their stats for that particular game
I would assume PSN and XBOXLive have similar features?

But MOST importantly… you’re a little late dude. They’re in beta, which generally means semi-code lockdown. No new features, and only bug fixing from here on  (unless you read something into the advertised jobs in the career section).

nice ideas, however as lyndon pointed out, its a bit late. sadly.
concerning 1.) i guess it disrupts the operatives skill to make enemies visible on the map, if i remember correctly (too lazy to dig up the source, should be in H0rse’s compendium)

Our tagging does work somewhat similarly to BFBC2, we just removed you having to press a button. Basically just targeting somebody will broadcast some ‘Enemy(ies) spotted!’ dialog from your character, and the enemy will then appear on all of the team’s radars.

  1. That BF2 (but it was in ETQW)
  2. That’s BF2 (Enemy Territory games are progressive)
  3. That’s BF2 (ET games have freteams)
  4. That’s . . . WOW? (hours plaed only server to kids with lots of time in their hands)

And as said, it’s already late…

(Vaporman) #7

Glad to see number 3 was implemented in some fashion. It sure makes teamwork simpler if you can keep order amongst each other.

(SebaSOFT) #8

Hopefully this doesn’t mean spam when targeting multiple times by second, or multiple enemies in 100 px

(Humate) #9

Hoping this is optional.

(.Chris.) #10

Yeah guess it would get pretty annoying after a short while, I suspect if someone else has spotted them already it doesn’t happen or something like that.

(Loffy) #11

I want something like 4). Just make sure the counter has five or more positions to show the numbers of hours played B R I N K.

:penguin:

(brbrbr) #12

ETQW support all four. with different access/usage implentation, than you pictured, a bit.
hope Brink will have this too, whithout making gameplay ridiculously sucking as in BF or Crysis multiplayer, as you suggest.

(Exedore) #13

Curious as to why you’d want this as optional? You’d rather keep the info from your teammates sometimes?

There is of course a spam check on it, earlier in production we did hear it a tad too much.

(brbrbr) #14

maybe this should be “Hoping, this is optional” ? in “to be or not to be ??! thats is the question !”-style

(Senethro) #15

Exedore: Remember all the red arrow haters in ETQW? Its that kind of thinking. They think hiding in bushes and hoping the other team doesn’t use voicechat should be rewarded.

That said, if there is a constant chatter of CONTACT! ENEMY SIGHTED! ENEMY INFANTRY SPOTTED! then that could get a little wearing.

I’m looking at it from a competitive standpoint, not general public server play.
With that in mind, my reasoning is due to the fact it doesn’t encourage good communication skills amongst teams. Same goes for interrogation etc.

Conversely its a nice feature for public play

(Exedore) #17

Well, no automated system is going to do as well as what competitive players will do… they can spot body type, class, weapon, whatever. I expect most people with VOIP on will be doing this, it’s certainly what we do when playing here. I’d have to say that overall I’m very pleased with how our system works.

(Crytiqal) #18

SHOW US SOME OF THAT ACTION xD

(SebaSOFT) #19

Lol Exe don’t rub that on our faces…

(Humate) #20

Oh, yes I’m not saying your spotting system will replace voip for competitive players.
Im saying it will minimise the differential b/w teams, where most competitive rulesets try to maximise it.

Im sure the system works great, I wasn’t knocking the idea btw.
