Brink: Hard difficulty

I must say since getting this game I have been very very impressed by the A.I. on the hard setting. Not once have got annoyed, fustrated and stopped playing (well partly because I’m an adult).

It’s very very challenging and for PS3 users, we got PSN back in time to play co-op. Which is even better and even harder.

heh … you should have been in my game the other night. I was playing solo against in 8x8 AI match. It was a delivery mission and we pushed the package near the completion point when all my AI mates took off on me to recapture a command point. A command point that was well behind us.

The next game, I noticed all the AI did was fight over the command point. Only a few would assist with the primary objective. You’d think if command points were such a priority (which I don’t think they are) they would defend the points instead of capturing then leaving them soon after.

I can definitely agree there. The most fun i’ve had is with my buds taking on hard difficulty. Lots of fun in those nice lag free games.

Lol i have encountered typical AI stupidity but it’s a tiny amount. In general I’d say even better then Killzone’s AI. [Yeah I said it]

I like the fact that you can actually sneak up on AI.

Co-op games are harder. It’s good, for building skill purposes.

The best part is when people/bots stand infront of their friendly turret, and you sneak up behind and hack it…

(ju5t_bl4z3) #6

Lol I have yet to do that. I often stick to Engineer due to the fat I use the turret as a distraction. But Opertaives can remote hack turrets and actually direct them right? As an ability unlock I mean.

(SpyCake) #7

Yep…hack at level 10 and controll at 15 i belive

In my experiences attacking A.I can get infuriating. I realize they expect you to do the main objective, problem is all your attacking A.I go for side objectives most of the time and all the defending A.I defend the main objective just making it ridiculous to even achieve anything.

Playing against the hard bots on Shipyard as Security/attackers is nearly impossible. Fixing the crane is fine but hacking the box is infuriating. Your bots care to much about the bridge crane and then once they fix it they literally get stuck on the bridge and spaz out. If by chance they don’t get stuck and try to hack or defend the hack the team will eventually be overrun since the distance to the box is so short for Defense.

It’s terrible becasue if you try to hack it, the team will never cover the box for you and enemy engineers will shut down the hackbox real fast once your dead. If you try to cover your team instead they never go in and hack it. The closest I have got to finishing that map with bots was something like 56% then I died and saw the number dwindle to 0 before I could even get back near it.

The enemy AI is fine it’s the teammate AI that needs tweaking.

I am only putting myself though this becasue I want that last audio dialogue and Tough as Nails achievement. Whenever I play the map online I seem to end up as Resistance and miss out.

Exactly this like I said. The attacking A.I is the one with particular issues atm. Also shipyard was giving me trouble for a bit while working towards the achievement for hard / versus wins on all the main levels. Finally managed to get it earlier since the NPC’s decided to be capable on the 3rd or 4th big attack.

We had five trying this last night and won a couple and got battered on a third. The AI drop you in a heart beat and you need to make sure everyone buffs each other with everything before you go in. Great fun though I can’t help feel it would be easier to play versus to get the achievement lol.

(Pandajenkins) #12

I did versus but most of the levels no one joined for me so I ended up just doing them with NPC’s anyway -_-.

I’m gonna re-post this in here, because it looks like a much more sensible crowd

In my experience the AI is fantastic at defence and mediocre at best on attack (this is after the first patch on PS3). That’s why I chose the resistance for my first hard attempt as they are predominantly defence missions (which seems odd as I would have thought the resistance would attack establishment targets and security would defend - but that’s a discussion for another thread).

As people have said, the AI gets too distracted by sub-objectives and doesn’t seem to put the appropriate emphasis on the primary. This is especially annoying on hack and data carry missions because it is so easy for the enemy to undo all your work. I don’t have a problem with the AI’s willingness to do the objective or let me do it. I have equal success/frustration whether I am the correct class for the objective or not.

I think the problem is that the AI is trying to be too clever by adapting to secondary objectives and sub-goals.

In my opinion, the solution to this problem is for the AI to behave the same whether on attack or defence - follow the simple baheviour of swarming the objective at the top of the wheel with a healthy balance of classes and camping it (i.e. turrets/mines).

Leave the secondary objectives up to the players to go for, be they opening shortcuts or taking command posts or whatever. This might also serve to make defence missions a challenge as well, because as it stands there is a huge disparity between attack and defence missions. Defence is easy to the point that I won a hard mission the other night by letting my 3 year old daughter unload the LMG into a wall in spawn for the entire match, while attack missions are sometimes only passable 1/5, 1/10 or 1/20 times.

Other than that - loving it. Hoping the PS3 commnuity picks up… Looking forward to DLC too :penguin:

I never seem to get pissed off with the AI. I just go back in…
