i read that Brink will be shown at e3. since last year’s Brink showings were limited to on-site audiences only, i’m wondering if filming Brink will be allowed at e3. or in other words: can i look forward to e3 or can i stop looking forward to it?
Brink @ E3
<Speculation>Being ~3 months prior to release, e3 would be a great publicity event and it would be insane if it wasn’t shown off at that event</Speculation>
well, after last year’s big disappointment at quakecon i’m not sure. why would they disallow cams at quakecon and the other events when the game looked already very good back then? there’s really no reason to allow cams now either, when controlled inhouse footage looks by far better than some random guy’s cheap mobile phone cam footage.
surely there are at least a couple other games you can look forward to…?
I get the feeling a lot of people here aren’t looking forward to any other games and so are looking to Brink to match their preferences perfectly.
all the other games coming out are boring … This game looks like if done right can one of the best competitive and casual game.
It would be weird if Bethesda and SD don’t show it publicly at E3.
Last E3 and QuakeCon, they shown the same (early?) build, that’s why I guess they didn’t want it to be filmed.
Now I see no reasons to not show it, and i hope because I want some new gameaply footage, it’s already hard to wait until fall.
Pubs/Devs just often prefer to release a high quality video themselves rather than have shakeycam vids floating around.
As all of us do
But the fact is that we’ve waited some weeks before being able to watch your HD feed that the press saw months ago. Therefore, I hope there will be official HQ videos for us during E3 and not weeks after.
Indeed, if you guys are concerned about the people’s impressions then make sure the shaky cam vids secretly filmed from out of a suitcase aren’t the only option we have.
Same thing as with new songs being released, these days producers make sure high quality songs ‘leak’ so the low quality rips don’t ruin it.
I’ll just remind everyone that it was Bethesda that hunted down and murdered the shaky cams of last year, IIRC SD was… indifferent? realistic? about them leaking.
Lessons to be learned?
Hound Bethesda for official footage
and
Backup any online leaked source you find for private sharing. Code phrase: “what a charming cuppa tapir”

well, that depends. they should be able tell us now whether people can film the stuff or not. during the quakecon presentation we gathered together on irc, all hyped up for the first Brink footage. and what happened? i’ll quote darkangel from the time then. he describes it best:
[2009-08-14 20:42] <DarkangelUK> here’s me sitting with my **** in my hand for 40mins and nothing to ***** to
there was a news about a presentation. the news turned up a hype. but the hype turned out to become a very big disappointment. except for the few ones who were at quakecon.
lesson learned: bethesda knows how to kill a hype. it was also that time that i stopped caring about rage, it got the same secretive treatment.
Publishers make deals for exclusives with game mags/sites, these things can be very influential
I was just saying that perhaps SD aren’t the best people to petition for information given what happened last time, although I know Bethesda does have some presence here.
I agree though, I think I was on IRC at the time too. Much flaccidity was to be had all round. While I can understand not peaking media interest so early I don’t think it would hurt to throw a few bones in forums and irc like they do for people at the actual shows.
The point still stands, make sure the game magazines get access to the footage fast.
