Maybe because the game was developped to work on Windows platform ? It represents a lot of work (a portage under Linux OS), and it’s often done by someone else (like Ryan C. Gordon - http://icculus.org/). But I may be wrong on that point !

Anyway, give them some time :slight_smile:

need some help trying to get a dedicated server up on the net so me and a buddy can play. Once I change the net_ip address from localhost to my router’s address I’m unable to spawnServer

error:

I’m having a very odd issue; it’s not listening at all, even with the default batch files (with Windows Firewall disabled). This is on Windows Server 2008 R2.

It doesn’t even appear to be erroring, it starts up well enough (few warnings, but they shouldn’t cause it to not listen at all should they?):

Like I said, netstat reveals it’s just not listening at all. Double checked via Process Explorer (nothing on TCP/IP whatsoever). Wouldn’t let me run it under a debugger to check the result of the Winsock calls (as above, it’s not erroring whatsoever but it’s also not listening, so…?!), so I figured I’d ask here.

Hopefully someone else has come across this issue.

PS: I’ve tried listening on 127.0.0.1 as a test to see if it’s failing to bind on the public IP address, but it does exactly the same thing (that is, nothing!). Additionally, it is on a dedicated server.

I hope as well that Linux Files will come soon!
Maybe somebody from Splash can post some news about the actual work process and how long it could take till the Linux files will be released!

We will for sure not create the server under Windows! We have had in the past to bad experience with games like Enemy Territory or / and Quake Wars under Windows !

For sure Windows files are for most gamers and server admin important, but believe me Linux is much more stable for such kind of game…
