Brink Dedicated Server Files Available

(Nail) #21

it should run on a decent single core, but has multi threading capabilities so multi core would be better

(gee666) #22

man it sucks to be a noob at this

ok so I have got as far as trying to set up the rcon
but not sure about the IP bit

can anyone tell me what to do now?

turb0z: net_ip is supposed to be the right cvar, however there is a bug with it.

net_clientRemoteConsoleAddress is a client (not server, notice how it starts with net_client) cvar which you set for the ‘rcon’ command to use.
I won’t even be playing PC Brink for a while, but I could easily setup a server for others. I have a 100Mbps UP DOWN connection with a 10GB/24hours Upload cap, and several old PCs running XP and Ubuntu.

A couple of very noob questions.

What kind of specs do I need to run a Brink server?

How much bandwidth does a busy server take up in a single day?
I’ve been running about 4-8 dedicated servers on a box and I rarely get over 400gb of transferred bandwidth per month. A single server is probably doable.

Yeah, thanks man. I realized after I typed out the cvar that I was looking at the wrong one. +set net_ip worked for me.

(gee666) #26

do i need to run ipconfig? sry dudes
evrything has worked so far but gettignthe RCON right worries me

(turb0z) #27

@gee666

If you don’t perform a +set net_ip youripaddress it will just use the IP that is assigned to your network adapter. In some cases, where you’re not actually running this on a server with multiple IP addresses set on the adapter, then you are all set.

If you have multiple IP addresses assigned to the server (mine has 15 addresses), then you have to define the IP you want it to use.

As far as the RCON goes, net_serverRemoteConsolePassword looks to be the command you’re looking for. Then once the game is released, follow the rest of the instructions in the PDF loaded with the server files.

Ok i’m not running any thing else so type +set in steam and it;s a go?

oh and thanks for that

(turb0z) #29

You’ll add the +set net_ip to your launch parameters. I don’t run my game servers through the steam client, I download the game files through the hldsupdatetool.exe application.

Then I just launch the brink.exe from a batch file.
