Brink crashing to desktop mid-gameplay

I bought Brink Complete a couple weeks back, crazy deals because of the steam sale and whatnot.

It worked fine for a day, beat two of the campaign missions for Security, but now regardless of what mission I play, whether online, offline, or solo, the game is guarenteed to crash to the desktop without any error message after 8-10 minutes of gameplay (usually during the second half of a mission, too)

It’s kind of frustrating. =/ Any help would be appreciated. I see a lot of people with similar issues and the problem, to my knowledge, hasn’t been solved?

My specs are as follows:

Windows 7 32 bit
3.2GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 6670
Intel Core 2 Quad

The game runs fine on graphically high settings.

I need you to produce a log file that may provide more clues. Here’s how to do it:

[li]Go into your Steam Library, and right-click on Brink[/li][li]Click ‘Properties’[/li][li]Click ‘Set launch options…’[/li][li]Paste the following: +set logFileName “CrashDuringGP_$Y.$M.$D_$h.$m.$s.log” +set logfile 2[/li][li]Run Brink from Steam and quit as soon as you have produced the issue.[/li][li]Retrieve the logfile:[/li][LIST=1]
[li]Go to …\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata#steamid#\22350\local\base[/li][li]Find the file called CrashDuringGP_xxxx.log[/li][li]Paste the contents of the log file within CODE tags[/li][/ol]

I don’t see a folder with my SteamID under steam/userdata, only one folder is present and it is called 42864037. What now?

That number is your steam ID number open that folder and then…

  1. Open the 22350 folder
  2. in there open the local folder
  3. and then in there open the base folder
  4. In the base folder look for a file that begins with CrashDuringGP and may have an extension of “log”
  5. Open that file with notepad
  6. Copy and paste it’s contents here so Crispy can see and analyze it

Are you up to date with your graphic drivers?

I have opened a thread about crashes I have on an ATI card: basically, with drivers 11.7 to 12.1 I have random crashes (usually after about 30 minutes but with 12.1 drivers it crashes after about 10 minutes). Only solution for me is to use drivers 11.6 (from june 2011): with them, Brink doesn’t crash.
You might want to give it a try (download the old drivers on ATI/AMD website, uninstall the current one, reboot, install the 11.6, reboot, play) although be aware that you may have issues in some other games with older drivers: e.g. drivers 11.10 or 11.11 fixed problems with Skyrim and Rage…

Note that you only need to replace the graphic driver, not the other parts of the ATI/AMD bundle that you install at the same time.

I’m really not sure if it’s worth reverting to older drivers just to play one game/have issues in everything else…Is there any other course of action you may recommend?

If you use Mumble (voice chat client), try to remove the overlay, which tends to have issues with Brink (but from what I’ve seen, these are very specific and not random crashes). Apart from that, the driver downgrade is the only suggestion I can make.
